OK I would like to learn the basics in french I have a book to learn from but I am sure I will learn better and faster if someone has a fewe hours to spare in the next few weeks

I mean there really isnt much more I can say...

Ooooh - funny you should say that!! I'm just cleaning up the study in preparation for moving house & I found a book/audio CD set called "Teach yourself beginner's French". It's all yours if you want it!!

I spent three seasons in France (2 winters skiing in the French Alps and a summer at a watersports camp in the south), but the extent of my French-speaking ability is restricted to asking for a beer and lots of skiing terminology!!

I learnt French in highschool from year 8 til 12. I know the basics and a bit in conversation. And I'm pretty sure Ike speaks a little bit as well.
Little Bearr
Skitzkitty - that would be incredably helpful

Sang - do you remember anything much of it though?? could you help teach me?
Little Bearr
Skitzkitty PM about how I can get hold of you and those tapes... the soon I get started the better

I can help you out with the real basics and maybe some conversation. Oh and the pronounciation of the words as some of it involves "rolling the tongue", so to speak. biggrin.gif

Oh that sucks my greek teacher was like that.. I think I kinda remember.... umm nop cant!

Sang's lesson for the day...

Counting
1. un - pronounced "oon"
2. deux - pronounced "derr". The "x" is silent
3. trois - pronounced "t'wah"
4. quatre - pronounced "cwa'tre". When annunciating the "tre", you roll the tongue
5. cinq - pronounced "sunk"
6. six - pronounced "siss"
7. sept - pronounciation is the same as it's spelt there
8. huit - pronounced "hoo-wi"
9. neuf - pronounced "nerf"
10. dix - pronounced "diss"
11. onze - pronounced "oonz"
12. douze - pronounced "derrz"
13. treize - pronounced "trezz"
14. quatorze - pronounced "cwa-troz". Again rolling your tongue at the "troz" part
15. quinze - pronounced "cunz" or "sunk-err". I'm not sure on this as my teacher came from a different region of France but I'm pretty sure it's the latter.
16. seize - pronounced "sez"
17. dix-sept - pronounced "diss-sept"
18. dix-huit - pronounced "diss-hoo-wi"
19. dix-neuf - pronounced "diss-nerf
20. vingt - pronounced "vungt"
21. vingt et un - pronounced "vungt-e-oon" the "t" is silent. Also "et" means "and"

As you'll soon notice. The spelling of French words is different to how they're pronounced. Most have a silent letter when pronounciating each word.

This is it for now. Hope it's a start. smile.gif
