Ok Puppies are great.. well in some cases..

This thread is being open for 2 reason one becuase would like to hear people training tecnics for training a new puppy, I have bread puppies since I was a kid and love them to bits. Mum and I dont bread at the moment but never had to many problem with house training or any of the other basics for a new dog

until now

over the huge weekend we just had my mum decided to get a new dog, a beautiful 8 week old daschund.. and this is the second reason for opening this thread, we are having some settling problems and have gone throw all the usuall stuff to get her to stop crying but she still cries ALLL night long

now I know some peopel will suggest the take the dog to bed thing.. people I know for a fact that that is the worst thing a person can do with a new pup... I need other ideas for night time. I NEED SOME SLEEP!

First of all make sure its had adequite food and water before bed, Make sure the puppy is comfortable. Its natural for a puppy to cry because to put it bluntly you have just torn it away from its family. Dogs are pack animals and for that reason might be necesary to ger him a stuffed toy to sleep with. It will no doubt get destroyed in a few weeks but by that time he would have settled anyway.
As for getting him trained start right away there isn;t really a too young to start with the ever popular sit. To initiate the sitting i use dog bickies as training with food or " positive reinforcement technique" as some people call it works the best. I get the pup to concentrate on me look at the food in my hand i then tell him to sit ..... he won;t of course but its getting him used to voice commands smile.gif hold the food in your hand not letting him have any but he can sure smell it by now. Hold the food just above his nose where he will try to eat it but as he does this move your had towards his back. So if your holding the food just above his nose move your hand in line with his back bone in a slow backwards motion he will keep tryng to look up at it and eventually will find it easier to sit down thats when you re confirm the command "SIT" and give him the treat and give him LOTS of praise telling him what a good boy he is but only when he does it correctly etc. Will take a few times to get the hang of it but sit is the most important and basic of commands any more help don;t hesitate to ask.
With my dog i have managed to get him to act on voice commands alone and i can also use hand signals only as well and he will resopnd to both. the sit, stay, shake, drop, beg, and dance are ones he's learnt so far the last 2 still require a little work haha, trianing them is a lot of fun and they come to enjoy it my dog loves learinig new tricks smile.gif good luck with your puppy:)
