Ut-oh! Politics Thread!

So I'm starting this thread because a) I love drama and b) I know diddly squat about politics :P

Lately I've been asking everyone who they are voting for to get a better understanding on politics. I never did Legal Studies at school and I still have trouble remembering who is Labor and who is Liberal so I have zero understanding of the way things work. Last time I voted for the same guy my mum did simply because I had no idea.

But this year, I want to be informed :) If you feel comfortable enough, please post here with who you are voting for and why. I want to make an informed decision this time round.

If you don't want to openly discuss it, as I've found many people don't, but you still want me to know what's going on in your mind, PM me :)

Please try and keep this thread well behaved, no name-calling, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Kevin Rudd. He's willing to ratify kyoto treaty for one, bringing us up to the world standards in protecting the environment. He will get our troops out of Iraq. He's far more genuine than John Howard who manipulates people to win elections, even his own party. He's been our prime minister for god knows how long, too long, its time for a change.

i'm not allowed to vote so i'm not going to... But i'm liberal... Labor govt's in the past have ruined australia and economics, like the keating govt, Highest all time unemployment, highest all time interest rates, Highest all time inflation, highest all time national debt... howard may not be perfect, but he's done well for out country so far. and he doesn't pick his ear and eat the earwax either...

As far as I can remember, Liberal are the f*ckheads who only care for the rich and Labour are the more understanding ones for lower income familes... am I right?

nope you are wrong. educate yourself first then say that. What do you know about the IR laws that hasn't been said on media or news? Your just believing what the media wants you to believe... Get a copy of the new IR laws and the whole fairness testing and you'll see it's not bad even for poorer income earners, such as me... I'm not rich, so why would i like liberals if they are only for the rich?

As an example, Germany was at an all time high in their economic standings, and the poorer people were crying for a change. so the govt changed to the equivalent of our labor gov, and germany went into the biggest slump they've seen since ww2... people cried out for change, just because and they paid the concequences... Vote for labor and watch australian ecomic strength fall...

also when they say that unemployment has decresed, that not true as they take the info from the buro of satistics.. they dont get it from Centrelink to get the exact number. so when u hear that its dropped its a load of crud!

and i have always voted for Labor to get howard out as many time howered has stuffed up when talkign to the public... he even forgets his own party members names...

i think howard is geting old and is very close to his use by date

they do but they dont have the correct numbers, i was told this while i was studying. i think its the fact that the statisics arent current

only cos you get centrelink doesn't mean your unemployed....... I have a job and i get centrelink, because i'm a student...

errm uve lost the point of this ben... im saying that centrelink have more accurate numbers than beauro of statistics.

a lazy govt agency that has a tendancy to stuff things up, has more accurate numbers than a beauro of statistics who's job it is to keep accurate numbers? it doesn't make sense what your saying is all...
