Well, i hardly think you can use the information on these forums as an indication of the Rave Community in general.

Sure, the site has changed, the way these forums are used has dramatically changed, the people that used to post on here have mostly left and there are no longer any management as such overseeing the forums.

Raving has not lots i's soul, i just believe due to the music and the influx of new people from the current popular music has shifted the perception of raving. All things have to change with the times and this is what Raving is currently doing.

Raving is opening up to a diversity of people and sounds and i believe that to be a good thing.

hit the nail on the head there... hence i've stopped going to events really... i find more satisfaction in spending quality time with the few true friends i have than mixing with the many fake ones...

i'm so with ya, but as soon as u mention anything about the rave scene goin downhill people start callin u sketchy...

I don't go to raves on an sort of enhancements. So my mind aint in no way sketchy. I'm actually doin my masters in Astrophysics atm. I really miss being able to go out and feel the vibe and atmosphere of the place, just being a possitive place to be, with awesome people and where it's about the music the respect of people. What we have now is lies deceit backstabbing etc... when i first started raving i saw not 1 fight ever in any rave i went. but the last few i've been to people have been getting agressive, and sometimes even fights broke out which is NOT the raver way. When u don't feel safe at a rave anymore, thats when u know it's changed.

Forums shouldn't dictate the living scene that is out there pumping away in the clubs. People behind a computer are ALOT different to people in fluff and phats on the dance floor winksmiley02.gif

Celeste is whole heartedly correct on this one. The sound is evolving, as are the people. That happens. Without evolution where would we be today? Still listening to acid-house I'm sure!

To have a good time when you're out you need to get rid of or limit your time around those that bring you down. There is deception and fakeness all around the world, not just in raving. Surround yourself with top people and you are more likely to have a great time. Don't make your night about watching or judging those around you, make it what you want it to be. Better yet, don't have any expectations at all! You're bound to wake up or walk away pleased that way winksmiley02.gif

This is true. I beleive it is to do with lack of knowledge as well as self respect and fear. Or just complete ignorance. It will take a harsh lesson for them to learn, or at least you hope they will learn.

You shouldn't have to limit your range of outtings because you have fake friends. Get rid of them, take your "true" friends to different outtings and make those outtings tops! Life is what you make it. Surround yourself with good people and you should have a good time. The vibe of a whole nightclub does not have to impact your night. Make your own vibe!

I thought the oldies called it "jaded" or has that changed too?

Well that's my 17.5cents. Not saying the "scene" may not have changed. I know for me it has. But that's more to do with the style of music that's being played more and more these days. I'm still a high beleiver in life is what you make it.

Jaded is what i meant! tongue.gif pickin on me again! tongue.gif

I have gotten rid of the rubbish in my life. thats why i have surrounded myself with those that really care... And in the scene i have to say there weren't many at all... There are a few i hang onto dearly because they are beautiful ppl and have all the right reasons for being where they are!

The reason i've stopped going is because i have studies to worry about and occupy my time with people that are possitive to me rather than be such a negative influence. I realised all this around this time last year come to think of it... and i'm glad that my life has changed 180 degrees because of the stupidist things i've done in my life not long before that.

i am liking the person i'm becoming more an more than who i was a year and a half ago. I couldn't do that with so many negative influences from the scene and lies n deciet. My musical journey is also prgressing very much, and call me jaded, but i'm moving towards the lighter side of the dance music scene, like trance and psy, and also dnb, whereas i used to be nothing but hardcore... i've come to love more genre's of music because i don't see the music for the crowd it attracts anymore, i see it for what it actually is, and the music is what governs my liking to it or not. NOT the people or drugs or anything. If u need to enhance your moods to enjoy something, it's not worth it in reality, whats the point of pursuing it? isn't that really just giving in to peer pressure, because u have to change who u are to conform to liking a genre of music?

Mmmm I agree with you 100% there Ben.
Industries no matter where you are come with the down-side and the peer pressure, but the steps you make define the person you become... You evolve just as the industry does, for better/worse.

I myself have changed a great deal in this musical world, Hoovers, Freeform and Hardstyle thumbsupsmiley.png

Times will change as people do, but the ones that love it for the music rather than the wrong reasons will be there, cheering on their favorite DJs, crankin to what we only know the weekend to be filled with... Friday night @ earth, taking to John, sitting against the convenience store window drinking orange powerade, then going inside and cranking to Oddy, Mr. S and Cheeky B thumbsupsmiley.png

Well thats my normal friday night anyway.

There was a shift in demographics in the rave scene around 1995ish. We all noticed people we would have formerly labelled "bogan" converting to ravers. My friends and I used to comment on them.. "look, dancing bogans" Thing is they didn't convert their attitudes or their outlook on life, only their clothes. This sounds judgemental but I'm afraid sometimes reality isn't politically correct. Aggression and angst abound.
I don't know if people realise but the original ravers who built the scene in adelaide were geeks pretty much. techno music is science fiction music, and most of the ravers were sci fi fans. Somehow rave become "cool" by accident. lol

no offence to the founding fathers - maximum respect to the electronic, high tech, space cadets who put adelaide on the map! may you live long and prosper.

Ahh excellent analogy - rave used to be star trek, now it is starship troopers!

Is it because Lerox closed down? Sad times I know. Let's start 50 more threads about it.
J618
Bunny it's not about a venue or even the music. It's about people's attitudes, which is what wizzy and others were trying to say. But it's not something these new ravers can change. It's about their upbringing. Their parents, their families, their friends.

I personally don't have a problem with the changes to "the scene", because I just walked away from it when it went to shit, which is what most people I know did. So the feral newschool can have it, it's theirs! have fun! bon voyage. smile.gif

And I think all that Bunny means is that there is no point in holding on to the past, sure you have great moments, but not everything can be. Times change and evolve!

You missed my point laugh.gif

Going to raves is about attitude? You're not making any sense.

Anyway I'm not here to argue about "the scene" I'm here to point out that you need to move on. Call it what it is, evolution and deal with it in the best way - memories. It's life.

You think the newschool ravers aren't as good because of their up-bringing? WTF.

and you walked away from the scene... because it turned to the shit but you have no problem with the changes?
Change yer nick to "Contradiction"

Yea, I'm with Bexter...

Also, you walked away from the scene yet you're here on anthems?

Or is anthems not part of the scene?

blink.gif

OR!! Is this some kind of weird science fiction thing that I will just never understand because of my upbringing?

Its because of our schooling. We didn't go to a private school so we aren't in the "in" crowd.
{Bunny}
Because that makes sense.

Me thinks the disco biscuits from 1995 have a much longer lasting effect laugh.gif
Elektro Kitten
guys.. you're completely missing J618's point. Rave was much about positivity, expanding consciousness, happiness, dance. ALot of it these days is only about drugs. Even though the music/crowd changes, i love the old and the new music. However, the attitude and vibe from patrons is so much more pretentious and/or lets get f*cked up.

and its roots - where it came from WAS nerds playing with analogue synths in a very manual fashion. And older genration ravers parents were from a different way of life. Its amazing what 10 years can make a difference. Its just life, no one is better or worse. Its just different
