Any other huge formula 1 fans in here?

Was great to see Mark Webber get his first podium, even if he was blessed with bad luck the whole race again, partly his own fault.

Started like a stationary brick off the grid again and immediately lost 2 grid positions. However after the safety car was deployed and first round of pit stops he was in third harrassing alonso for 2nd for about 20 laps, some bullshit williams pit stratagy saw him lose 3rd to heinfield but both were good enough to overtake alonso in the last 10 laps.

Schumacher is having the unluckiest season of his career. set the fastest lap of the race so no question about the speed he has, just keeps qualifying shit, and stuck behind slower cars!
Davinr
I think webber truly deserved second, and was only stopped from achieving this because of team orders allowing only his team mate to take advantage of the safety car. But what an overtaking battle in the last 5 laps for the 2 Williams boys to grab second and third...wooohoo. F1 is actually excting again smile.gif

Well done to webber for his third place anyway, even if he seemed unhappy about it
fo_sho_manr
nice work for webber, that guy has alot of potential. haven't been following it at all of late, been boring, so I just dropped it..
Decepticonr
Last race was excitement plus!

Cant say i agree with this new NO TYRE CHNAGE rule but its making for dramatic finishes!

just like kimi blowing his suspension trying to carry a bald tyre over the line on the last lap! another 20 corners to go and he would have won.

This works well in my favour though as I have $50 riding on Alonso for the Title over Kimi.
Decepticonr
Trulli Pole position tonight. theres a surprise. Lets hope he can hold that position to the first corner and keep Kimi behind him so Schumacher can carve his way through the field biggrin.gif

Webber dissapointing 9th in qualifing sad.gif

fo_sho_manr
how did the Micheleins hold out for the teams that are using them? did they use the shipment from france? interesting to see if FIA allowed that..
Decepticonr
only 6 cars started the race!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

every michelin car was forced to withdraw for satefy reason as the tyre was unable to deal with corner 13 at 315km/h.

The teams tried to do a deal before the race letting bridgestone drivers to the top 6 grid positions if a temperary chicane could be put in place but FIA wouldnt allow any changes to the track.

Schumacher 1st.
Barricello 2nd
3rd and 4th two jordans
5th and 6th two minardis

Yer, no cheap 2nd hand or retread tyres for me. Go in and ask for a 265/35 18" retread and see the look you get laugh.gif

Not that I would want retreads....I've lost count of the ppl who have driven my car at 200+ ohmy.gif

What a great win by alonso.

my $50 bet at the start of the season is starting to look the goods.

Riakkonin coming in scond so the championship leade only opens up by 2 to 24 points.

Schumacher coming in 3rd keeping his season alive but it doesnt look too good for the german coming 75 seconds behind Alonso, 3 seconds away from being lapped.

dancin_donkeyr
What a boring race. Whatever happened to the glory days of F1 where guys would run each other off the road? Drivers only seem to crash through their own stupidity these days. It's terrible.

Alonso and Raikkonen are the only two drivers worth worrying about.
Decepticonr
Yeah well these cars are so fast and they reward mediocraty by giving second place 8 instead of 6 points theres no need to attack as hard.

theres little to no chances to overtake these days. even if a car is clearly quicker (refer Schumacher over Trulli first 15 laps) they cannot get close enough to attack as the wind turbulance behind them is too high.

as much as it pains me to say this f1 is in all sorts of strife. some of these rule changes have made the sport a joke.
dancin_donkeyr
They need to get some action happening again. I agree the incentive is not there to push for first anymore. There's only ever really 2 teams competing for the championship anywho.
Decepticonr
geez if u thought that race was boring hope you didnt see last nights. cant really remember an overtake with any meaning happening.

renualts both got absolutely shafted!!!!!!!!!

alonso got stooged behind trulli when he was comign to overlap him, lost at least a second or 2 which cost him first place coming outta his second pitstop. and fisicella stalled it leaving the pits second time, costing him 3rd place.

apart from that it was just 2 renualts and 2 mclearns a lap ahead of BAR's and Ferreris and 2 laps ahead of the rest.

dancin_donkeyr
It's so entertaining, I can hardly contain myself. If Jenson Button was nowhere to be seen I'd have to have given up on the F1 now. I must keep the faith through these trying times.
Decepticonr
season pretty much done and dusted now thanks to kimi DNF'ing yet again. alonso with a 36 point lead with 7 races to go smile.gif
buzznr
TUrkish GP on channel 10 atm.. seeing the quali spots, should be a fun race! i'm excited! biggrin.gif
Decepticonr
just another boring race mate. the mclarens crusing way ahead of everyone else. loved seeing motoya run off teh track on the last lap for alonso to sneak a 2nd though. stitched up the championship i reckon biggrin.gif
buzznr
if Alonso finished 3rd he would've gotten 2 points less, so by no means is the championship stitched up. Raikonnen's still in with a sniff, but yeh, its his to lose. All Alonso can do is try to hang onto his tail (no mean feat!) and hope that Kimi's car fails him.

rolleyes.gif meh to all who pay out F1, sure there are improvements that can be made, but thats any sport, and F1 will turn it around, watch and wait.

i thought it was a pretty exciting race, especially for this year's standards..

Massa's screwup on turn one - was amazing to see his front wing go *poof* into carbon fibre dust as he and M. Schumacher drove over it
Raikonnen's pass on the first lap for the lead
Team orders taking place at Renault with Alonso being told to overtake Fisi
Webber's pass on Coulthard
Webber's tangle with Shumi snr
Williams' cars blowing 4 tyres - Heidfeld's last blowout was huge coming into turn 8 at more than 240km/h while overtaking another car!
Button charging thru the field to finish 5th
Fisi's fuel rig probs
Raikonnen's pitstop blunder knocking over the fuel guy
Montoya getting hit up the arse and being thrown off the track after lapping Monteiro
Montoya going wide cos of his damaged car at turn 8 handing 2nd to Alonso

and they're the only bits i remember at the moment. if you call that boring and want overtaking every corner of every lap, go back and watch CART/IRL or those moving chicanes called V8 'super'cars..

F1 isnt about passing where any willy-nilly driver can be competitive (read: drivers of the calibre of V8's (where the lead drivers can't even compete successfully in Europe, let alone F1 or the US) and in the US - where the F1 reject drivers go over and begin winning!), its a showcase of engineering precision and pushing boundaries to the limit for every tenth of a second.
this was one of the better races of '05 for F1 on one of the best tracks on the calender! Bring on Turkey 06!
Decepticonr
excuse me mate im the biggest f1 fan here. f1 over the past 5 years has been boring, not this one race. it is in shambles. some sort of level playing feild has to be established no one wants to see one sided contests all year. Mclaren are clearly ahead of renualt for pace, and renault are clearly ahead of the rest.

I have a $50 wager on the fact alonso will beat kimi for the championship, and im pretty confident that alonsos 2nd has stitched that up. if montoya only held on for 2nd it would have been a completely different ball game. Kimi dominated the race, Alonso had a shite race, yet he only made 2 points up on him.

and the turkish grand prix was refreshing addition to the f1 circuit, plently of oppotunities to overtake.

buzznr
biggest fan bar one.. cool.gif hehe

F1 has had limited overtaking for way more than 5 years.. try since the mid-nineties. and even before then it was a fine art.
and as for teams dominating, umm, there's always been a top team or two since the mid-80's at least, and that aint gonna change for a long time too. CART/IRL/V8's is the game if u want most teams havng a good chance of winning every week.

but i think we agree on the same principle, F1 isnt in its healthiest state and its the fans that suffer the most. i'm sure the right things have happened this year to ensure it will soon be on the road to recovery, and if not, bring on the Manufacturer's Championship in '08!

ok, Raikonnen has 71 points, and Alonso has 95..
so ur saying if Alonso had ended up with 93 it'd still be game-on? what happens if Alonso doesnt finish at Monza in 13 days and Raikonnen wins? will it still be stitched up, or would the stitching all of a sudden unravel?
ur probably right, Alonso is in a very good position to steal the F1 championship this season in a slower car, but i dont think he's got it in the bag just yet.

i think ur $50 is pretty safe, but i hope that Raikonnen comes out on top (at least just to keep Fittipaldi's record safe smile.gif ).
Decepticonr
renault has been the most reliable car on the circuit this year. alonso has only registered 1 DNF this season. the other race he didnt finish in the points was because he was caught up in other drivers mess.

to be any sort of chance kimi needs alonso to register a race with a DNF or no points and quite frankly i cant see that happening. I think there is a huge difference between 22 point lead and a 24 point lead as if montoya can get his arse into gear mclarens could go 1/2 and eat 4 points minimum out of alonsos lead. as they failed to do this at the turkish f1, even if they are do do it the next 5 races alonso still wins.

there only hope is button being able to sandwhich himself in between the mclarens and renaults which i give him every oppurtunity to as it finally looks like BAR has some pace now.

i realise overtaking has been a fine art but the last 5-6 years has made it almost impossible as the cars are going quicker then ever and there are so many wings poking off these f1's now that the downforce created by the car in front gives teh car behind very little chance to over take and he cannot cruise any closer then .6 of a second for any period of time as it will deteriate the car
Decepticonr
another fact is that mclarens have been very unreliable kimi has had at least 5 DNF's if not more. Would be a brave call to think he'll survive the next 5 races without another one!
buzznr
yeh gotta agree with ya! its gonna be an exciting finish to this season! easily the most exciting season this century i reckon.

and yeh looks like the BAR is finally sorted. only prob is as soon as Button has a car that's easily competitive with the Renault's at the very least, he manages to screw up and has to fight his way back during the race. i reckon he's cost himself a couple of potential race wins in the last 2 years now (altho last yr at Hockenheim the engine failure and corresponding 10-spot penalty probably wasnt all up to him).

i reckon (read: hope to dear god/whatever is up there) that McLaren have sorted themselves! if Renault take it out this yr, its thru McLaren losing it.

i think its a shame we've got this 10, 8, 6 etc. points system now. it rewards teams who are reliable more-so than the quick teams.
Decepticonr
well for starters Kimi blew 2 engines on the way to easy victories. and then there was teh race he tried to push his bald tire to 1st and blew it forcing him a DNF when he could have pitted for an easy 3rd.

definately they have lost the title on their own accord this season. and with nexdt seasons switch to v8 engines, all the engine manufacturers are basically back to square 1 and i am tipping a williams revival as cosworth alredy has alot of knowledge of the v8 engines. Mclaren may have lost their oppotunity
buzznr
i think McLaren have proven over the years they are in the top 2-3 teams in terms of chassis design, and Ilmor have shown to be one of the most consistent in providing a powerful motor over the last half decade.
McLaren should be fine next yr i reckon.

i hope Williams will be competitive next year, its been a long time between drinks for them now and yeh they'lll probably have the best motor on the grid initially. just a question of whether Williams will be able to design a competitive chassis around the motor. for a while now they've struggled in this department.

Webber for 06 WC? doubt it, but hope so!
Decepticonr
they should be alot more competative. WC is a big call but id take a few wins. any team owned by frank williams doesnt stay in the bottom half of the league for too long.
Decepticonr
damn alonso is stuck on 5th spot on grid tonight behind road block trulli.
