RAVE
just thinking why the hell is it called a rave?
I have called them raves for years and just realised I dont know why
why do you think they are called raves?

strange word for our times
buph
A rave party, more often called a rave and sometimes called a free party, is typically an all-night dance event where DJs and other performers play electronic dance music and rave music. The slang expression rave was originally used by people of Caribbean descent in London during the 1960s to describe a party. In the late 1980s, the term began to be used to describe the subculture. That grew out of the acid house movement that began in Detroit and flourished in the United Kingdom club scene.

The availability of drugs — particularly ecstasy — as well as alcoholic beverages at raves, which are often attended by minors, have caused them to be targeted and criticized by law enforcement officials and parents' groups.

it was in 1995 when the ADVERTISER put 'RAVE PARTY' on the front of the newspaper that term was first bought into use... UNTIL this time was just a 'RAVE'. Fucking mainstream media polluting our culture.

I think is was taken from it's literal meaning... people using 'rave' as slang to rave about this total new type of event back in 1988-1989...

adjective {before noun} INFORMAL
admiring; giving praise:
- The show has received rave reviews/notices in all the papers.

... just my 2 cents ...

I might post this on RA too, but it's all the discussion about the media coverage of the SADMA that got me thinking.

Ch 7 do seem to have a reputation of sensationalising stories....putting a twist on them to make better headlines. The Advertiser....don't get me started. Ch 10 on the other hand have been quite sensible, even going back to coverage of last year's Enchanted.

Why don't we reward the likes of CH 10 with access to the parties as long as they play fair. Ch7 can stay out until they learn to stop beating up headlines.

I think that's an awesome idea. The sooner we get the media relaying the fact that we're not about gang warfare or drawing young kiddies into satanic rituals the better. A rave is about the safest, most caring atmosphere you can enjoy the music you love in - we all know that!

sad.gif It's not going to happen... in a hurry...

It's even funny how Feild Day and the like in Sydney get GOOD media coverage like BDO but Enhanted Forest still get bad coverage with most media.

Just crazy....

Enchanted got good coverage last year by CH10. They should be rewarded with access to this years summer enchanted, and 7 told to wait at the gate while hell freezes over.

While Ch10 has great coverage from inside, interviewing promoters and punters, Ch7 can only fly overhead with everyone giving them the figner as usual.

Consider it like training a puppy, they're not to bright, but you can get there with patience

Diversified media assets

While originally focusing on running a television network, Seven has recently diversified into a range of other media areas over the past decade. Below are some of the businesses it has run, or is involved with:
It was a former stakeholder in the Optus Vision consortium.
It owned a part of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer - Once during the Christopher Skase ownership through Qintex in 1989 and again with Kerry Stokes in 1997.
It owns a large stake in the Telstra Dome (previously Colonial Stadium) stadium in Melbourne.
It was a former partner in the AOL7 Internet joint venture with America Online and Telecom New Zealand subsidiary AAPT. This venture is now owned by Primus Telecom and has been renamed "Primus-AOL", but Seven continues to supply it with content.
It owns a third of Sky News Australia, a subscription TV channel. The other equal partners are PBL (Nine) and BSkyB (Sky Television UK).
It owns Ticketmaster7, a ticketing company.
It owned a majority stake in B Mobile, a mobile phone retailer but has now sold out.
It owns a magazine publishing business, Pacific Publications, which publishes the following magazines in Australia and NZ:
New Idea
Family Circle
That's Life
Monument
Golf Leisure and Lifestyle
Home Beautiful
Your Garden
K-Zone
Total Girl
Girlfriend
TV Hits
It owned the (now defunct) i7 portal.
It operates the Austext teletext service.
It was a partner in Sports Vision, a company that ran the now defunct Sports Australia channels.
It owns C7 Sports, which had a number of subscription sport channels and is continuing its efforts to find carriage again. The service was originally available on Optus Vision and Austar plus Foxtel during the Olympics in Sydney
It owned Australia Television (now ABC Asia Pacific), a FTA satellite service broadcasting to Asia and the Pacific.
It and Granada Television each owned half of the Red Heart production company. The two companies retain close ties.

if you want to make a statement, boycott the above companies.

Actually, it's interesting to note Ch 7's involvement in a lot of former, defunct or bought out ventures.
