Got a lovely sms from adam internet today saying my connection was aproved and active! so i rushed down there soon as i got home picked up my stuff modem filters etc..
came home, connected it all up following the instruction CD after having a few minor issues to begin with. got it finally plugged in and i thought connected.. when it came up to scanning for connection "Error modem could not find a DSL connection on this line"

adam say that its cuz i used a longer fone cable from wall socket and to plug modem directly into wall and run a cat5 cable across to PC... but even when modem is plugged into the wall it still cant find a connection??

Anyone else had this problem???
fo_sho_manr
ring them.. they need to do an Isolation test and if still doesn't work, maybe hasn't been provisioned correctly (I used to do tech support for DSL wink.gif )

Well after plugging Ozemail on the ISP thread and saying how good they were exactly a week later they showed their true colours.
I had connection issues so I rang Ozemail and after 54 minutes finally got to speak to the tech department. The gentleman kindly informed me that my account had been disabled due to the account being in arrears. I found this quite amusing as I know my account was $30 in credit. So having to wait all weekend (Ozemail Accounts are only open Mon-Fri) finally got through to them on Monday. After another 50 min wait I finally got to speak to someone. After another 25 min dispute they finally admitted they were in the wrong and reconnected my service, not to mention giving me a free months connection. But as far as Im concerned they can stick their service. Any ideas for another good ISP?
DeLr
i rang adam help desk and connected with in 5 minutes.. but it was about 9pm at night when i called.. and later... and again....

working 7:30-5:30 doesnt give me much time during business hrs..

so their open from 9am-10pm for techs upport is very handy!

just hope can sort it out tonight!
PaulHamonr

fo_sho_manr

check out Netspace.. i've been with them for almost 4months now and have had absolutely no issues at all! ayt first we had a dodgy modem (our own, not provided by the isp) and we thought it was an issue with them, but their customer service was pretty good (about a 10min wait on hold - standard times these days unfortunately) and we finally realised it was the modem.
since upgrading that, its been smooth flowing all the way, and they're quite competitive in pricing too!
i'm on a 512kb Unlimited plan thats pretty unique in its capping (has Red, Amber, Green status and only caps you according to your past 7 days usage, not whole month like everyone else!).

anyways, definitely check them out and see what you think.
DeLr
adsl is connceted but they have me on a 256/64kb adsl1 plan.... FRKN!!!!!!!
wheres my 24000/1000 adsl2 connection i ordered???

might call them now... now thati can call and be online at same time smile.gif

If you want the ISP with that continues to come No 1 in customer service surveys, and has good value for money plans, you can't go past westnet.

We simply won't associate our IT company with anyone else.
DeLr
8000kbps solid connection. was running at 12mb earlier but slighlty unstable. so toned it back. dam a few km further out than i thought... but an 8000kbps connection rocks smile.gif
fo_sho_manr
WESTNET for sure..

ooooooooo, your on ADSL2 then DelusionL... nice..

why would telstra be wiring you up onto Adam's DSLAMs, isn't that Adam's job? thought the only thing Telstra needed to do is provide the wires to Adam for them to connect it up..
DeLr
some crap they told me down at the exchange wasnt set up properly. soon as it was rectified we hit 12mbs for half hr or so.. but toned back to 8mb for a strong solid connection at 12 it spiked and dropped a couple of times.

adsl2 smile.gif compared to my 56k tthis rocks!
Davinr
LOL. I wish I could get excited about broadband. I've worked in and around ISP's and telco's for so long now..... so when I got broadband at home back in 99, it just reminded me of being at work hehe.

See how the ADSL2 goes after heavy rain. You might have to drop it back a little again for good stability under difficult connections, but definately keep us posted as to how you go!
DeLr
yes well after nearly 5 yrs on dial up.. its nice to get 8000kbs tongue.gif as compared to my 56k tongue.gif

no issues so far. downloaded the Battlefield 2 demo nearly 800mb in about 10 minutes biggrin.gif

Foonji i am afirm WD fan aswell.. this 200 gig will make about 10 WD drives ive owned.. get on a good thing and stay on it is wat i think.

Seagate have improved their production and quality.. but i still dont use them. too much early issues.

DeLr

Davinr
I've purchased and installed well over 100 WD drives in the last 3 years. Best survival rate of anything I've used!
DeLr

Sik, does anyone know where to get good DDr RAM from. Am desperatly looking for some, i am only running 256 at the mmoment and its killing me
sad.gif
Davinr
More RAM is always good, but at 256MB, unless you're opening dozens of applications at once or have 1 or 2 that are extra memory hungry, that won't be you're problem. I run a gig of RAM, but I keep 20+ apps open at any one time.
Decepticonr
seagate are good now. there SATA's are better then WD. make a lil more noise though but that doesnt worry me. let me know when they drop under $150 Delusional. theres no rush for one right now. just like to replace my 80 and 120 PATA's with a SATA so i can have them running raid.

If it's only using 90-100MB of 256 MB RAM installed, and it's running slow, the RAM most likely isn't the problem. I would get the problem investigated properly before blindly throwing money at it
DeLr
windows XP runs at min requirements of 256mb... and XP is a RAM WHORE!!!!!!!

leats run 512...

Billygruff... me n my neighboure use to run a coax network between units, and talked more on IRC than we did in person... strange hey wink.gif
PaulHamonr

Some I was talking to made a good point a couple of day ago... At some pont Tesltra is going to upcap thre 1500 limited on ADSL1 and providers that are re-selling on telstra DSLAMs are going to be about to offer upto 8000 if you're in the right location...

I wonder how long that will be, Testra is always a couple of years behind. Does that mean I will have to wait another 18 months???

I wonder...
PaulHamon
DeLr
telstra... wouldnt touch it if it was free... bastards have ripped so much money from people.. cant understand why howards so keen to sell it.
PaulHamonr

I was talking about other ISPs that re-sell Telstra's wholesale ADSL (which is 95% of them) not Testra Broadband!

So I was wondering when Telstra Wholesale will release the cap!
DeLr
ahh yups i misread it ... living up to my name wink.gif
PaulHamonr

thought as much smile.gif
Ravvyr
well... all i can say is...

"dodo, dodo, internet that flies...!!!"

:| its not the fastest but hey, it does what i want it to do... and i didnt get a choice what internet provider my housemate had when she moved in...

maybe next time i'll be more specific...

as for the other stuff with the 1500, 8000, 99 gazillion watevers, i have no idea, im not that into computers... i just know what i need to know to get by... mkay!
DeLr
u knwo hwo to turn the computer on and get into anthems and msn and how to turn it off again afterwards *pats head* good girl ... tongue.gif

cause howard doesn't want the responsibility of running a big company like Telstra, he can't handle the heat.. once its sold, expect more price increases, why, I have no idea, especially with its current profits (greedy people they are)..
DeL
internode was suggested to me by a few people. but i found adam adsl2+ was more to my style better priced plan for my intended usage.
