Help Me With A Pc Issue....

sounds like a possible I/O conflict with your Vid Card and maybe the mobo..

now, I'm assuming you built this PC? did you play with the BIOS settings? is it running the latest BIOS?

everything connected fine inside? is it overheating? do you have dud memory?

Have you installed the latest DirectX? DirectX Home Page

Try enabling an IRQ for the video card in the BIOS.
Don't overclock anything either.

Is it only Internet games? It could be your NIC driver, or PPoE if you don't have an ADSL ROUTER, and only an ADSL modem.

Windows XP SP2?

Disable the Firewall software.

OTHERWISE . . . re-install everything from scratch. Make sure you first download (before your rebuild) and then install all the LATEST drivers for everything after the clean OS install.

Installed the latest Motherboeard drivers? It will contain an AGP driver.

Process of elimination. If you do a clean install, install LATEST drivers (only the ones you) then test, install next driver/sw, then test, etc.

yeah whacked it together runs fine. max temp reached in a heated room near my heatear is 40degrees CPU temp bios settings havnt been touched. not over clocked all mobo drivers s installed.

games on my pc playing not online crash aswell.

had an iconnectaccess621 modem from adam internet bundled with the adsl2 i have.

no sp2 as it killed my PC had to reformat.

128mb video might not be enough.... sad but true these days.

128mb that has been running COD and quake 3 with out an issue for last 12 months. also my 64mb card runs both these games with out an issue...

Your installed OS + Apps has serious issues if you can't install SP2. Rebuild!
Hey if I had a dollar for everytime I blew my piece of sh*t Microsloth OS away and had to start again because of issues just like this - then I'd have lots of shiny coins.

tempted for reinstall again.

but after SP2 killed my PC and i had massive issues getting anything to run seubsequent installs all atributed to sp2. a few of my mates also had issues with SP2 killing their machines. i aint going near it. ill wait till Vista is comercially viable for me to buy and just do a full fresh windows install of that instead. till then ill just install xp pro again with out sp2.

I hae an issue I am hoping someone could help me with. Its actually my parents pc, somehow they downloaded a explorer toolbar called Mirar & it does crappy thing on their computer eg redirects them to porn sights. I cant find the .exe file to remove on their pc & I have tried programs like spybot to remove the program withought any success. Anyone who has been able to overcome this program without having to fork out 30 bucks US for a crappy remover would be appreciated.

Microsoft have a very sweet little antispyware device thesedays. I use it on a client's public internet kiosks, and it has recovered a few machines that were trashed after being left out of their secure mode.

As for the service pack 2 probs, out of all my clients (and I own an IT support business so I see a few), I've only ever had 1 machine destroyed by SP2. All that happened is the shitty no-name wireless card and drivers wouldn't work. I can't be that lucky, so there must be more to it

all used on this lap top i just cleaned up from the Aeura /nail.exe style of maleware/spayware plus 80 odd trojans and worms.

spent a few weeks on this lil pain in the ass.

the aeura virus/spyware/malware consists of up to 6 regenerators that constant back each other up as one is deledted or de activated.

so been quite a battle!

run multipel scans and drivers, my initial computer problem still stands.. when gaminig at all on line or offline my pc crashes and freezes.. this has now gone over my head.. so who do we know thats a computer whizz and can fiz stuff.. i will pay if i reallllly need to... dam i hate paying for computer help...

CPU is running at 35-40 degrees got an after market heat sink on there to keep it cool 3 case fans

got a gig n a half of Crosair ram in there so cant be memory issues.

rang a mate, gonna drop the pc to his place tomorow give him a week to diagnose the problem. mean while ill be on my second machine.. hrmm amd2700 but with only half a gig of ram.. seems so slow compared to this one

are you using the latest mobo BIOS?? BIOS'es can cause many issues.. have you checked that?

new motherboard, as in a month ago, figured the bios should be up todate? will talk to dave bout it tonight when i drop the machine off. if it comes to that sort of thing its over myhead.. i can flash the bios but id have no idea how to upgrade it.

all drivers been installed from the mobo disk, all drivers installed for vid cards and mobo and sound etc..

time to pass it off to some one else

w00t found a spare stick of 256mb ram.. into the slowmachine it goes!

don't assume because the mobo is a month old, that its BIOS is up to date, you will find in alot of cases its old, and sometime about a year old.. have a look at the manufacturer's website and find out if there is an undated version and check the changes made in that release, you might find that it was a know issue..

I reckon its hardware issue anyway..

my LG dvd drive when no cd or dvd in there is says its a dvd-ram, but as soon as u put any cd or dvd in it, the icon changes to a cd drive and it wont read any dvd, new or burnt, or cd's some times

i have changed over the cable in the computer to makee sure its not that or they havent falled out

Cracked CPU,

answer buy new CPU,

so looking round for a Socket A CPU at moment AMD, so on the spare machine.

but looks like the cracked CPU is fine apart form heavy graphics so will chuck it on my spare motherboard and build a divx player for the lounge room tv or a dedicated net machine for chatting/forums etc..

how do cpu's crack..? never heard of that before!?

when installing the new heatsink n fan it must of cracked the edge of the CPU core, a slight crack/chip on the edge not enuff to kill it but enuff when under high load such as games and burening dvds etc it freezes up.

wat makes it worse... i just bought New motherboard to suit that CPU... as a small upgrade...

where as if i had cracked the CPU to beginb with id have bought new motherbaord to suit NEW cpu and done a full upgrade at the time.. now im stuck just replacing bits when i coudl be UPGRADING!!!!

yeah its a radeon 9600 128mb card.. still got plenty of life in it yet! if in doubt ill go an x700/x800 card to suit the mobo. still AGP not PCI express but will just work with what i got now..

no more upgrades for a year i hope...

lol well maybe u should get sum1 that knows what they're doing to put the heatsink/fan on this time..
