Only to echo what EpharGy just said .. Propellerhead's Reason 3.0 is a great program to get started on (and continue on, of course), it comes with all but everything you need, including a nice video tutorial on the bare basics.

Whatever you do, don't settle for something simple like FruityLoops to "get the hang of it" then try to go to another program, it will likely take you twice as long to learn as you try to get out of your old habits.

Then again, it's been said that a sampler such as FL, Reason, Cubase, etc makes no real difference if you know what you're doing.

I swear by FL. Takes awhile gettin use to and a few extra plugins but all in all if used to its fullest capabilities its an awesome program.
crIs Pr
the above plus acid 5 for sequencing and effects ( has some really nice built in stuff) plus it has surround sound capability, and sound forge 7 for editing smile.gif
and yeah reason 3 rocks

Fruity loops is very basic, and barely compares to reason or cubase, espescially when running vsti's or using hardware.

That being said i use fruity at home, my comps too slow for much else.

at my bro's we use cubase as my sequencer and reasons rewired into cubase for my drums.

BTW Logic is only for mac i think, but i love some of the built in plugins.

cheers for the help but omg what the! i need a maths degree just to work these programs out but i am slowly learning been trying to use fl but am finding it hard just to spend the time working it out so thanks for the advice but i think it will be a little longer before my no 1 hit will be on fresh laugh.gif laugh.gif

happyb: if you stick with it, you'll find the learning curve is nowhere near as long compared to if you stop and start as you lose/regain enthusiasm.

It's like everything else that requires a bit of skill to do - after a long time of working with it, you'll think back to the days where you couldn't do a damn thing with it and laugh at how far you've progressed, etc.

hehe. i played with some software.

then fell in love with the old Roland MC303, so i bought 1.

its a little restrictive but still a VERY cool toy, and looks cool on ur desk :-)

I've been using the MC-909, i love the little sensors you can wave your hand around to trigger various effects on the sounds.

Reason 3 All the way.
Plus a midi keyboard
I've got fruity loops and it's cool but reason is my first love.

If you wanna try something fully oldschool, download rebirth, u can get it for free now thats what i started on and you can get some cool sounds out of it.

Be prepared to invest alot of time if u want results tho, I've been playing reasonfor about 6 mths now and am only just getting to a stage where I'm happy with my tunes.
