I've been 4 years for a week on a houseboat... they great fun with a great couple of people...

the space is very confined and if 7 days can be a long time if for some reason people in the group are not getting along.... don’t even have to be you having the problem... there is no-where to go when tension is up!

12 berth is good. but 2 people are sleeping the lounge room which make the mornings a little big of a pain... even if those persons are heavy sleepers...

I'd recommend not worrying about a spa bath, they HARDLY get used and look like a great idea at the time.
I'd recommend only taking 10 people so everyone get a bed.
I'd recommend adding an extra $500-$800 for the fuel bill... which is not covered and is usually your entire bond.
I'd recommend finding someone with a speed boat and/or jet ski to increase the fun for the week... but be prepared to put another $500-$800 on the fuel bill...
I'd recommend talking your Playstation, Computers, Books, mp3 player, etc, etc...
Id recommend putting $500-800 aside for a bulk booze purchase, we had a book and people marked down a drink each time they took one... worked pretty well. the stuff that was missed at the end of the weeks was spilt even.

Cleaning up the kitchen mess of 12 people is fucking pain in the arse especially if some of the people are neat people and don’t show any respect for others.

In the END my friend realised it was JUST as cheap to go to BALI for a week, as spend it on a houseboat and all the trimmings smile.gif

BBQ every night rock thou... Bonfires on the banks... Getting out of bed and jumping in the river is awesome... Wakeboarding and stuff is way cool.

*** interesting highlights ***

first year, first night... some idiots got drunk (all in there 40s... us all in our 20s) as they were parked on the other bank, we didn't know them. At 11pm at night they we're all jumping off the roof of THEIR houseboat.

We heard a massive crack and then crazy screaming... some dude had slipped and hit something hard and gone it... after 1 minutes he had not come back up... the people and esp. the women where screaming madly... some of our guys jump in the speed boat to find out what had happened...

5 minutes later they we're still searching for him... finally one of our team found him 15 metre downstream after using their brain (which the other boat couldn't manage).

he was blue, with a decking pattern smashed into his head and not breathing and not beating...

a second guy form our boat, spent the next 45 minutes keeping him alive giving him mouth to mouth as WE drove back to Mannum at midnight (because the didn't have a houseboat)... his heart was just beating all this time...

around 2am they arrived back at our houseboat.

next morning first light the other houseboat was gone and they had returned back to base... we enjoyed our week haven know we'd saved a life. we where supposed to be the stupid kids and them the mature adults... knew nothing about water saftey, about emergency first aid, had no way to get him to hospital, NOTHING... fucking IDIOTS!

the dude is a vegetable NOW and never recovered!

was a great week... just have to be smart smile.gif we had the time of our lives...

i wedged the jet ski under the houseboard
we nearly sunk the speedboat type to wakeboard the wake of the queen mary paddle steamer
the boatboats go wedged on the shore and it took us 3 hours to get it off
a friend crach a rib comming of the jet ski at 100kms per hour
friends did some awesome wake boarding tricks
we had a blue Curaçao topless spa bath

we ate, drank and be merry...
PaulHamonr

that's the ONE that they other guys we're on...

http://www.unforgettablehouseboats.com.au/...ble10/index.htm

10 smile.gif it's not the best... we had it one year...
PaulHamonr

if you want a spa bath.. ENSURE it's one with it on the OPEN roof... the 3 story ones are crap for enjoying the sunshine... and the roof is the only escape for the people inside!!!

smile.gif
Oldskoolier
thers a huge one im trying to fine that goes past my shack alot. its a monster... bigger than U10 - with an all glass front and sides... will continue researching!~
Fulcrumr
yeh i reckon one night would be ok, even if it was anchored or something...
pink_n_fluffyr
LOL @ Unforgettable...
My Dad built the houseboat 'Lady Muk' from the pontoons up with himself and a mate.
Did quite well in the industry too and it was damn nice havin it there to use when it wasn't out on hire. He revolutionised the industry by adding a type of rooftop canopy that hadn't been used before on houseboats and one day caught the unforgettable crew on the rooftop of his boat taking measurements!

So he sued em laugh.gif, and won aswell wink.gif But unfortunately it was only just viable for him and ended up selling his boat because he just couldn't be bothered anymore...It's still in great nick and up for hire today smile.gif

If you lot were actually serious about doin this, im sure somethin could be arranged biggrin.gif
Some photos and stuff > http://users.pinnacle.net.au/ladymuk/main.htm

That was meant to be me by the way wacko.gif
Silly auto login... blink.gif

sounds liek fun.. i think i coudl possible handle a weekend.. but a week would be too much for me to get off of work. need a boat licence to captain it ???
Oldskoolier
nah, car license is all you need, i have a boat license if sea.doo's or a speed boat are on the cards wink.gif
Fulcrumr
so all you need to drive a massive boat down the snag infested murray is a car licence? whoa...

so is anyone seriously considering this?
dream*catcherr
id be up for it, but only if i didnt have to pay! smile.gif
DeLr
sounds strange dont it Fulcrum. a car licence and u are allowed to power a 100,000 house boat down the murray with a whole new set of rules.. the rules of the sea.. do they apply to the river?
PaulHamonr
you'll need 18 month to book any of the unforgetable houseboats, so you might be able to get february 2007. smile.gif

plenty of time to save!
PaulHamonr
there is about 4 rules... nothing hard... the horn... and the distance away from other boats...

good idea to get your boar lisence (it's 4 life) and you can drive a speed boat... i think they hire them also for an extra $1k smile.gif

hardest thing is parking the thing a nighttime... but that's a whole lot of fun!!!!

Paul
dream*catcherr
WATEVA iv got enuf things iv got to save for!!! i need something for now so i dont make a proper decision! smile.gif
Fulcrumr
yeh same mon, money is the problem... always the problem

as far as i know del it's the same, i had a boat licence when i was living in vic, but that was almost 7 yrs ago..
DeLr
i guess that counts that out wink.gif tho some one else said about another group.. some ones father?

a group fo about 8-10 would be great fun for a weekend.

thats about all i could arrange from work etc still be pricey a couple hundred each for a few days...

transport up there i coudl arrange a mini bus no hassle. save everyone leaving cars there.

wathappens.. do uneed to drive theboat back up the river to where u got it from? or is there like a pick up and a drop off area?
crIs Pr
i drove a house boat once. i was 12. even had a captain hat and a beer in my hand hahahahahaa
Fulcrumr
lol, we just ditch it and run...
DeLr
ok.. we are not usin my credit card for security......

but im serious.. do we have to 'steam up stream' use heaps of fuel that way.. and i guess liek a renatl vehicle starts with a full tank... bring it back with a full tank or they charge $2 a litre!
Oldskoolier
Im only going if we get this one!

http://www.dreamboatel.com.au/gallery.htm

Its not worth doing unless we do it in style!
PaulHamonr
