Whether it be University work, paid work, highschool work, cleaning the house, taking the garbage out and so forth .. we all have things to do as a way to busy ourselves so we don't have to do the thing(s) we should be doing.

This is called procrastinating.

The majority of my "important shit to do" consists of University work which I have to do on, or in front of the computer .. so I tend to find myself playing games, posting on forums and chatting, instead of studying or doing that assignment which is due the next day and worth 40% of my total grade.

On the off chance the work consists of something not on the computer; I find myself taking a shower, making a cup of coffee, cleaning the house or doing other such chores which make me feel good, as if I've accomplished something great - though in reality, the super-important thing that needed to be done is still not even started because I spent time doing everything else instead.

Now, how do you procrastinate?
Fulcrumr
i quite like my job so dont really procrastinate there, but home stuff like vacuuming and ironing i hate, so i avoid it where possible, i usually crank some music or watch a movie instead...

hopefully i'll be studying all next year, i find study and learning crap really hard so i'll have to devote myself if i want to keep doing it... usually when i study i'll do anything that seems important to do instead... i plan on staying in the classroom to study instead of going home, should work...

same with running/gym i have to really motivate myself and often find excuses
Jutsinr
My job I love as well, that's probably the only place I tend to not find other things to do to pass the time.

I tried that whole staying at Uni thing to get the work done, but funnily enough it only lasted a week or two before I fell back into the same routine of going home and killing time doing other things of only mild importance .. hah.

.. and as far as working out goes, I tend to find as long as I don't break my momentum I'll continue on with it. It's only when I decide to "have a week off because I'm sick" or some such that I end stopping for months and months - then all motivation is gone completely sad.gif
Fulcrumr
ah yeh, i've never gone for more than a week without exercise tho, usually a day or 2, the running kills me but afterwards i feel great... haha
*smp*r
Well, when I need to procrastinate from other boring jobs (and yeah, this includes ironing for sure) I can play on my turntables...hours seem like minutes on there biggrin.gif

And I'm a girl so we can spend hours painting our nails, doing our hair etc etc wink.gif
buzznr
i get onto the anthems forums...

see, i should be in the garage finishing off my wiring on my car.. or my headlights.. or my front bar.. or my dash.. or my engine bay.. or my steering.. or my paint..
but i'm on here reading up and posting.. procrastination flows freely thru my veins
meikar
I'll do basically anything to prevent myself from doing what I should be doing.

It can be anything from laying in the sun, singin along to the music, ringing friends about something really important (like what I had for tea), reading a magazine, going online, to a relaxing milk bath....... Now these are all validated excuses...... Becoz if I didn't take a little time to relax then I would stress out!!!

Or so I keep telling myself!!!!!!!!

the devil's niece..
Jutsinr
Is there any proven benefit to a milk bath?

Personally, I hate the smell of milk, so I'd likely try to put myself out of my own misery by having a milk-and-toaster-plugged-into-the-wall bath.
buzznr
Leaves your skin gently scented and feeling like silk apparently..

here's a recipe for ya Jutsin!

Ingredients:

3 cups powdered milk
1/4 cup oatmeal
1/4 cup dried orris root (has a soft violet scent)
1/3 cup almond meal (ground almonds)
1 capsule vitamin E (break open into dry ingredients)
1/3 cup cornstarch
meikar
Don't forget the rose petals!!!!!!!!

you can actually buy like milk powder so it does the same thing

milk is also good becuase the pH is neutral, so it's great for getting your skin back to the right level
Jutsinr
Or you could just be like most normal people and not use industrial-strength soap - or just use a toner to restore pH balance .. !
*smp*r
No way am I having a bath in oatmeal....imagine where that would get into...eeeuuurrgghhhh.....totally agree with Jutsin...be normal and use ph balanced skin products tongue.gif

Anyway, now I am just procrastinating here, posting crap about bathing in breakfast mixtures, when I'm really meant to be blowdrying my hair, then going to bed!!! tongue.gif
Jutsinr
I was meant to finish off a whole lot of work that's due over the coming weeks, and was also meant to go for an early night so I could get up early-ish tomorrow.

I hate you, Internet.
Elektro Kittenr
jutsin (and or justin) why does that not surprise me at all???

Hows the 9/11 stuff going???

or are you still to do that too???

Not that i can talk being told off for my keyboard over/under usage today... ouch!

Jutsinr
Weelll.. tomorrow is meant to be the 9/11 work.

I finished noting most of the current Psych lecture material, that way I can do the remaining 3 essays I have to do over the next 3 weeks without worrying about notes and shit for exam.
missvixenr
im heaps good @ procrastinating.....well @ least i think i am cos im lazy and manage to not do things that need to get done, cos there is more important things to do....like wash my hair....or look in the fridge smile.gif
LadyKr
I dont procrastinate *she says looking at the towering pile of paper work that is becoming increasingly unstable & then remembers the wedding that starts in under 2 hours that needs final arrangements*
Ok, i do procrastinate- always have, probably always will- at the moment anthems is my main method, but right up there is things like baking, playing fetch with my puppies, brushing my puppies, painting their nails- ok my dogs in general, all of the other animals, talking on the phone, watching tv, listening to music- with so many distractions is a wonder anything gets done tongue.gif
foonjir
lol. you only just learnt to refill the cordial tongue.gif
missvixenr
bahahhahahahah f*ck you foonji laugh.gif
Nitrousr
At one of my previous jobs i became adept at sleeping while sitting dead upright, and because of the way my pc and office was orientated no-one could tell. Really handy if you had a big night, not so handy if youve had a big night and have a massive deadline sneaking up....
SpecialKr
...right now...being on anthems laugh.gif but i just cant work anymore!! and its too damn hot to go outside *looks grumpy*
Bexterr
I hear you ... anthems is stealing my nap-time away.
Elektro Kittenr
Yeah. Waking up and spending my morning on anthems/msn ect is a very good way to kill time lol!

Like today... and then it was way to hot to leave the house..
So i just started writing music tracks. Which is ACTUALLY a good thing smile.gif Cause i've been meaning to do it for ages!b And now all i need to do is the recording...

I like good procrastination!
shenr
Trust Justin of all pple to set up a thread to do with procrastination!
Cleaning is procrastination.. talking on msn.. hahaha.. walking around aimlessly...
Jutsinr
I find it amazing I'm not procrastinating at all since I started working.

I guess I appreciate my time more now-a-days .. I try to fit everything in, and therefore don't put off doing anything.

We'll see how long it lasts though biggrin.gif
Fulcrumr
My laptop, anthems and MSN...

The laptop is in the lounge open and as i walk past i think 'i'll just see who's online'.... 1 hour later....

grrr
rockman_exer
yeah when I'm not procrastinating online I'm playin sensible soccer! Ike knows what I'm talkin about.
Bexterr
I should be going to my aunts, and to my mums but the air-conditioner here is taking my time away from me... as is my downloading.
shenr
Definately MSN!

Bexterr
Myspace, anthems, MSN, Dowloading ....

all things I am doing at 3ish am when I should be sleeping.
