Just curious if anyone on here brews there own grog?? either beer or spirits? I havnt done spirits but have been told its not to bad if done right. I do alot of beer and i have sitting in my linen cupboard at home a good 140 bottles of piss nearly ready to get hammered. My fav at the moment is Coopers Pale as thay seem to come out pretty well. Also i have done a Corona style which is one style is sitting in the cupboard. Thay pretty well work ok. Its funny drinking with mates and thay have a few and thay are on there road to been pissed cause the old hommies are pretty strong on the alcohol.

So do any other people do it?? Got any tips etc...........

Yeah we brew our own..

We mainly brew the lagers (cold beers) stouts or the Pale....

Lagers i think taste the best, ours always come out kinda of sweet...

Not really many hints i can give, cept when u wash the keg thing make sure u don't use anythin abrasive... one scratch and it's useless... :S

toby's dad does a mean brew... old foggie style so only ever one batch at a time and he never starts the next lot until all the bottles are back from the previous brew... he's just using a coopers home brew kit we got him for fathers day this year but it does alright.... trying to convince him to branch out into cider then the spirits.

only tip i can give is to triple steralise the bottles when you go to use them... makes all the difference and ensures a smoother, frotheir brew.

i do both.. with beer i normally use coopers draught and add double sugar to get more of a sparkling.. but i've been using the coopers 'real' lately.. with double sugar again.. and i think i actually prefer it.. we have a tap on the side of our fridge.. so we dont bottle.. we just use kegs.. heaps easier.. n ya can have a coldie when ever you want.. spirits takes alot of hrs to make.. but u can pretty much make whatever you want as long as you've got the basics. and the hangover factor seems to disappear aswell because its alot cleaner than wot you buy in a bottle.. the only way you can tell the difference between the real thing and mine is when you take shots.. sometimes mine are smoother.. sometimes they're a bit rough.. but generally when ya mix them you'd never kno wink.gif

So whens the party at you joint bec? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

That double suger sounds like a top idea. Mite have to try it with the next lot. I just got the draught with the coopers brew enhancer so i might have to have a look at it.

Been doing a few brews latley and know i have fridge set up with a fridgmate temp controler i can control the temp i can brew lagers wich tradionally need to be brewd at lower temps around 10-14 degrees unlike ale which is 18-24 degress. So 2 nights ago i put down a 2 tin Malt Shovel Pale Ale (made from the James Squire brewing co) and added 24grm of Pride of Ringwood hops to give it hoppy flavour. This weekend i will be putting down either Grumpys clone or Cralsburg Elephant beer with an alcohol content 7.5 to 8% or a pisener which are hard to brew with the following receipe

1.5kg Blackrock Export Czec Pilsener Liquid malt extract
15g Hallertau Hops 20 minutes
15g Saaz Hopsinutes
Dry hop with 15g Saaz in the secondary
with saflager yeast
Ferment for a week and "rack" into secondary and brew for another week then bottle and cold condition @ 4degress for 6weeks

This might something along the lines like Stella or simalar

Should have tastey lagers ready for summer as they take alot longer to brew and condition and they taste alot better if you leave them longer to mature. Hopefully by then my backyard is complete and i have a keg system hooked up and have beers on tap. Next mission is to brew spirits just need the outlay of around $500 for a reflux still

Anyone else brew?

I used to brew but had a couple of bad batches

I wanted to brew exactly what your doing now but I couldnt control the tempreature
Harleyr
Try this link mate. If you can get hold of a working fridge that will fit your fermenter buy one of these and you can control the temp. If you no how to wire a car stereo youl be fine

here is a link from a forum member on a homebrew site i go on showing step by step pics and intructions on how to wire one

If you can do it a ice cold home brew lager in summer that cost you like $20 for nearly 3 cartons well you cant complain!
