It has been decided that the time for an anthems IRC channel has arrived - this has had a bit of a test-run which involved numerous team members, and a few close anthems friends; all of which I give my thanks to.

Anyway, now it is time for the channel to go public to both our anthems family, and the extended rave community. So IRC users, old and new alike - come join in the textual mayhem that is the anthems IRC channel.

I've constructed a brief run-down of the necessary basics of IRC to make it a little easier for you to access and navigate the channel - this can be found *here*.

I understand there will no doubt be debate and deliberating over whether this is the best idea for the anthems community - but before you get into a negative mindset, I ask that you at least give it a try to begin with, then help with some constructive criticism and such.

.. now for anyone already IRC savvy and not wanting to read the help page; the #anthems.com.au channel can be found on the AustNet server (irc.austnet.org).

.. for anyone having any problems with IRC, or understanding the help page; please message me right away by either e-mail, msn or private message (all avenues can be accessed from my *Anthems profile*).

I hope you enjoy, and feel free to post your thoughts here after trying it all out.

feel free to contact a mod/voiced user for help aswell. quite a few of us have been online in IRC for a few years.

yes.. moderators do have the power to kick/ban/silence users at their discretion if its required. but i harldy see any of us going to be power tripping IRC nazi's

lol,, yes coloured scripts mp3 listings.. acsiii pictures etc.. can be annoying.

but generally i think most the anthems people will be well behaved in that department

basic mirc scripts like PnP etc are fine. but its when they get used in channel for colours/LOL's etc weird funki shit...

quick hint to other users.

change your colours to a black back ground and a nice teal/green writing or even pink... its quite easy on the eyes

Best advice ever to be given about IRC.

Staring at a white mIRC screen is like staring at a light bulb.. for a long period of time, it's not so easy on the eyes :S

i see the regulers from the test screening.. the usual irc'rs that habitat the place with or with out the anthems room...

surely a few more out there would be interested in chatting...

yes. as far as banning scripts i believe the multi-coloured ones are unnecessary. MP3 scipts are ok.. its a good way to find new music to listen to and seeing as how it is a music community i believe its kinda fitting.

Cmon people get in there...

yeah an MP3 script woudlnt be bad in there as its a music channel.

plus gives us a chance to get songs form others as oldy said

Good to see LadyK diving into the deep end and giving IRC a go.

I noticed Magik_Mark was in for a bit as well, some technical difficulties I think though.

BOOSTING will be getting on in his lunch break.

Everyone but Paul (because he's on a Mac) as far as I've been lead to believe.

mIRC is by far the easiest/best program for PC users.. no idea about Mac, Ircle is quite popular though.

there are hundreds of irc programs/scripts that can be used.

www.mirc.com will sort that out for basic program . then after a while find a script like PNP (peace and protection) and add in all the fun stuff..

i havnt used standard mIRC in yrs.

i run a program called Xircon with a Kano script. its aTCL based scripting as opposed to mirc...

and i understadn 90% of that was jibberish to most...

idling is my speciality.. i serve it with a side of chips and maybe some garnish of [a]

Its called idleing.. im in IRC 24hours.. but only there a short time...

irc traffic is mostly just keyboard warriors flaming each other and peoples away messages and peoples /nick (change nick name usally to "blahblahAWAY") lol.. also perhaps a considerable amount of trout slapping.

But it used to be fun back in the mid 90's

Without the IRC channel, I likely would not have met Taliesin .. someone which I can just tell will become part of our little anthems regular crew.

yeah quite the activity in there! its good. removes alot of the random chit chat into a fluid motion. some great group chats and alot fo stirring up of each other

hmmmm, I'm still undecided on this....and like Davin said time is always an issue....

but being a bit pc illiterate can someone tell me what does IRC have that msn doesn't and why would I join anthems IRC when I can talk to all of you on msn anyway?

I'm not bagging it in anyway, I'm just wondering why I'd want/need another chat program on my computer....someone who knows more about it than I do sell it to me, coz at the moment I aint sold.....

I still think a chat room that is directly connected to the site is a good idea....

Everyone has their perferred method of communication. The IRC channel is just one way of chatting with each other, anthems is just extending it's reach to all posisble medias.

well....I was nearly in tears trying to get this sorted out and set up - then darling Tyson (my resident PC geek) got up and sorted me out

I think I'm all sorted now, but from what I've seen so far (albeit very limited) and all the geeky words Ty just tried to fill m head with (stop it, its hurting...my brain does not do computer geek talk ok) not sure if I'll get into it very much....we'll see.....
