why do we use only a small percentage of our brains full capacity?

well , I rekon its a buffer zone-like a crash helmet so to speak, a sacrificial annode
the excess brain material is to allow for our stupid decisions
like the time we accidentally ate the poison mushroom
like the time we drank so much we killed heaps of brain cells
like the time we fell over and smacked our heads on the ground
like the time you went to catch the cricket ball, but missed -smacked in the head again

and so on and so on

imagine if we could get it all working at once

no way is it a buffer zone. i know i shouldnt believe everythying ive read but we apparently have many other senses that are latent. think esp. telekenisis (sp?) and the like. some of us have them some of us dont. but we all could. we were all born with the same cell structure ie: we are all human. so theres no reason why we all cant have these cababilities. and what about the ability to build pyramids/mayan temples? how did they do it all that long ago? yeah maybe 3 million slaves in fear of the sun god, but thats the logical, scientific way of looking at it. what defies logic is the fact that the stones used in the mayan temples had gaps between them that had a tolerance of a 100th of a millimetre. even in this day and age thats next to impossible without the use of a laser. how did they do it? mind power. thats my theory. and thats the sort of mind power that we dont have today because weve been told all our lives that humans cant do that sort of thing. BULLSH*T!! nothing is impossible........

while humans have evolved our brains have certainly not in some aspects... we may be able to do more and apply them more in today's world but we certainly lost our ability to survive in harsh climates and without food for days, build structures to meet our needs without machinery etc... long ago these things would have been par for the course, now we think we are dying if we don't eat for 4 hours or the heater gives out on a cold day.... we've been conditioned out of allot things due to improvements in technology and science and general living conditions. People are just softer now, this leads to there being less our brains can cope with and therefore less output from our brain over all. If we could all unleash more power from our brains and delve into the so called darker sides such as esp and telekinesis the world may just be a better place, on the other hand, if it were common then the not nice people out there would be able to abuse it for their own good and to the detriment of others. It is a great thing that nothing is impossible and there is absolutely nothing that we cannot do if we put our minds to it... the abuse of that however, is another matter.

i could go into this so much more but in true ironic form my brain isn't playing ball today... needless to say psychology and the way we use our brains, the capacity they hold and our ability to tap into that immense capacity is a hugely fascinating subject on which every one and his dog has an opinion... you'llbe hard pressed to find one clear answer as to why we don't utilise it all... psychologists, neurologists, doctors and psychiatrists have been making a living out of this question for a long, long time and still don't know!

I'm with Cris P on this one....we all have the ability to use a whole lot more of our 'mind power' if we only remembered (or learned) how. Cris P, I don't think your dream of being able to fly is such a silly idea actually....right now it is, so for Gods sake get down off the roof, damn you but maybe if we were a bit more evolved mentally we could we are so conditioned to believe we 'can't' so therefore it is true....

It has been said that the generation born after 1980 is meant to be more spiritually evolved than those born before too...more psychic, emotive etc...but does that make you younguns smarter or just a bunch of hippie air-heads???

i choose the second option but i blame tv, and video games (i love being a nanna) and the sin that was the 80's.

I haven't found that in younger people but it's an interesting theory.. i think people born later than us are more open to these things because the taboo's of the 50's, 60's and 70's surrounding the "unknown" had all but dissolved by the time these kids were born as had the power of the church which has contributed allot to what people are and are not willing to believe in that regard, unfortunately though they have so much else taking over their attention span I doubt they get around to exploring it anymore than us oldies did and people of a younger generation are indoctrinated with the "you can't do this and you can't do that" attitude because they are taught to be more socially resonsible and sensitive to others feelings etc at a younger age. I think the part about them being more emotive is valid as it's less of a bad thing to be in touch with your feelings, it's ok for boys to cry now whereas it wasn't so ok in the preceeding generations.

Open mindedness definitely comes with age, as your world expands your mind has the potential to expand with it. So maybe the theory that those in the generation after the 80's is true but it wont actually show until they have passed through a few more years?

that's just one of the mind powers... we all have them, be it esp, telekenisis, telepathy etc... it's a matter of who of us has the capacity to tap into them....

that would not be me, unless I really choose to. I have on occassion concentrated really hard on something or someone to a point where I get what I want or get to sense what that someone is thinking/feeling. This is very much pot luck tho and I am sure we've all had experiences of this kind at some stage.. if i knew how to do it easily all the time I probably would unless I couldn't turn it off!

from a psychological point of view it is entirely possible to tap into another's thought patterns and feelings at any particular time (but then anything is possible - we are only limited by what we believe), this usually requires a stong emotional bond that allows a channel of sorts to open between you and that other person.... it happens quite often but allot of people either forget their dreams, misinterpret their meaning or see it as purely coincidence. I have an example, when I was younger (14) I had a friend who was dying of cancer, we knew she was going to go at any time so I was more attuned to her situation and therefore more open to being in tune with her... the exact minute she died I was sitting in my loungeroom watching tv with my mum and I swear I saw a flash of her in hospital saying it's over now... of course my mum didn't see the flash but I told her about it and she told me to call the hospital and just ask if my friend was ok...I eventually got someone on the phone at the hospital and they told me she passed on.. they hadn't answered immediately as they were trying to revive her... my mum made me ask if the tv was on in her room and what she was watching, same program.... very, very weird... so it does happen but you have to believe it can.
It's happened a few times since with other people in my life. Again not something one can control.
I've got a psychology phd and I am no closer to understanding the mind, how it works and what it's full potential is and how to harness... it's not something we will discover in our life time or maybe even the next but there is one common agreement between people who study this kind of thing... the mind is capable of holding and processing massive amounts of information, the missing step in utilising it is the how.. once we figure that out we'll all be super humans!!

at the exact time i had my latest accident, my dad woke up and walked to my room to see if i was home, i wasn't, and he had a feeling that something wasn't right.

ever heard of binaural beats Jase? look into it. pretty amazing stuff. ive had one very freaky experience whilst using it. i could hear the words and feel the emotions of hundreds maybe thousands of people all at the same time, and my body or my presence i guess grew bigger than my house. i was like some overgrown Chris freak thing...... bit hard to explain. but yeah bit hard to explain to myself also.

tells you a little about it... i've heard and seen people exeperience a whole range of things while doing this...

on my first try I thought chickens in the paddock across the road were talking to me in pidgeon english... i had seen the chickens before trying the experiment and was in a very open frame of mind...one girl doing it at the same time wanted to get rid of some back pain and believes it worked... back pain came back but apparently the binaural beats touched a nerve that eased the pain for the time she was listening in...

I think people are only limited by their own constraints. We have these extra senses there to be used - after all, we only use about 10% of our brains or something. If you think about, throughout evolution the size of the sapien brain has increased - this should obviously lead to a larger mental capacity, so why not other abilities also?

I've had way to many 'special' experiences to even attempt to be sceptical about these sorts of abilities. If you say it wont happen, then it wont. But if you believe in it, you're one step closer to it becoming reality.

SMP: Maybe it's true about being born after the 1980's makes you more open to these sorts of things. We are moving into the age of aquarius. Aquarius is and Air sign therefore that of knowledge. Perhaps we are just more open to it as it is a thing of 'our time.' I think we are lucky that today people are far more open towards these ideas than before. It makes it easier for us to explore these ideas.

Either way, those who don't believe are limiting themselves - mind over matter

yes read that book and the the books that follow it also, theres two i think maybe three. but they arent as good as the first.....bit like star wars or superman i guess. anyone seen superman 4? absolute SHITE!! anyway back no topic the thing a really enjoyed about this book was the way he explained the history of the world and why we are where we are and why we had to do the things we did as a race to get to where we are now. interesting read but has a few flaws and 'holes' in the story.......

yes he does cris.. and he's insane (seriously, he was a client of ours at State Trustee's when I worked in Melbourne.. he moves around allot as crazy people tend to do and we managed his funds and legal affairs) Thiauba prophecy came from the book I think or was it that he based the book on the prophecy?? can't remember now.. he's written allot of similar books under different names (has about ten of them from memory and no idea which is his real name be we called him Clancy)... all interesting but to be taken like i would take the celestine prophecy, one persons experience or interpretation of events in their life...

I had someone experienced guide me throught it the basics were silence and lots of concentration, then basically closing our eyes and resting then visualising ourselves with almost like a highligher and highlighting our bodies. Then you progressed to fill the chair and table, onto the room, then other rooms of the house, then onto the house and garden, was weird looking down on the house and the yard.

Then basically use that to move where you want to move.

Thats a really rought description but thats what i remember of it.. I was probably over a year ago now since I did it....

unfortunately my phone rang as we were finishing up and coming back... bad thing to happen.. SPLITTING headache for the rest of the night.
