For those who don't know; DJ-Qbert has been a turntablist since the early 90's and has been developing his style and abilities ever since. He teamed up with Mix-Master Mike (Beastie Boys) and ShortCut to form the infamous Invisibl Skratch Piklz. to me a Di is just someone who spins mad beats but a Turntablist is someone who does everything else. huh.gif

DJ Q-bert - Superman . avi ( 79Mb ) 21mins@512k/[email removed]
sample.avi

q-bert's renowned as the scratch style specialist - when he came to adelaide he was doing shit like this and crazier for well over 2 hours straight cool.gif

Invisibl Skratch Piklz Vs. Da Klamz Uv Death . mp3 ( 13MB ) 3.5mins@512k/[email removed]

this was done in the one live recording of 3 men and 6 turntables. the worlds fastest scratch you hear is that of ShortCut... after performing this set the skratch piklz broke up and went their own ways as when they were together they were too unstopable, number 1 competition was none... ph34r.gif

I'd have to say his playmate Mixmaster Mike is as good, or even better than Q-Bert.....and then there's DJ Craze who is in another league altogether biggrin.gif

I totally agree with philbert though...a turtablist will always kick a DJs arse for showmanship laugh.gif I'll be seeing how finances go, and if they are favourable I'll be there watching Q-Bert do his thing wink.gif
SUPERSHOOTERr
Scratch Perverts are awesome!

Carry on.

you do realise that Mixmaster Mike was in the Invisible Scratch Piklz long before he had an affiliation with the Beastie Boys blink.gif In my opinion Beastie Boys have not been the same since he left the spot of their resident DJ sad.gif What a combination that was!!!

Is Grandmaster Flash a 'turntablist' ?

the girl has taste!!
PeAkEr
A lot of scratching they do is with D&B as most Hip Hop beats aren't fast enough for them (the better they got).

Though that does seem to be changing

/agree with mich - the girl has g000d taste wink.gif

agree too, probably why Craze is such a killer DJ, heaps of people don't like him cos he plays both hip-hop and dnb but his sets rock.

Yeah i knew mike was mike before the beasties, just a point of reference for others, never been a fan of the beasties anyway, mike was the sole reason they got big anyway and anyone listened to them. shit he could be performing with the back street boys, i'll still go see his set, then burn the mother trucker down to rid the world of the backdoor boys once and for all! Mike's without a doubt an incredible DJ, but q-berts 2 and a half hour scratch bonanza versus mikes 1 hour of break beating at his last show in adelaide tips me in favor of Q,

Grandmaster Flash is a king! the guy was born in '58, much respect for surviving this long. he was out here a few years back and put on a historical show, he spun vinyl from the very beginnings of funk up to him mixing and breaking in basement jaxx - was an awesome show. he may be a little old to be learning all the new tricks but he still know's what to play at a party! wink.gif cool.gif

smp971r
wooohooooo...I just won tickets to see Q-Bert tomorrow night biggrin.gif
philbert and I will give full reviews on the mixing Madness later wink.gif
philbertr
Jesus titty fucking christ he's good live!! especially when teamed up with the best freestyle MC in the world. show was most dope, such a pity more weren't there to see him.... >sigh< dude was scratching without the mixer and lifting the needle to cut the sound, every time dropping it back into the right groove of the record... absolutely amazing!

bring back CRAZE!!!
Aeonr

I second what phil said...that was one mad show....and MC Supernatural...legend MC or what!!!!

I was amazed at the sounds that Q-Bert was getting out of his mixing using only one deck....insane!!! Again I say DJs have nothing on true turntablists and their skills...absolutely mad skills indeed!!! ohmy.gif
