I usually indulge in a couple of drinks before heading to town, however i may have to alter my habits. Couple of weeks ago went to Highlander (don't ask me why!) anyway after paying to get in, i ordered a beer & it's was a whooping $9 sad.gif (a Carona....but still only a beer). Maybe the lemon in it cost a few dollars???
Also are the bottles of water getting smaller or is my thirst getting bigger??
Anyone else sick of been ripped off???
missvixenr
yepp....at a few venues which shall remain nameless.....i have found drink prices outrageous....but then there are some specials that are really cheep....so i guess they even out in the end....but still..

....price of good old pale ale @ my local is not soo bad tho
eternal Er
Curious....Whats the most people have paid for drinks/water?? Maybe im out of touch??

okies... I just rang th highlander and spoke to the duty manager there... during the nightclub Corona are under $8... he's said he's pretty sure it's $7.50 but it might be $7.80... I also know they often run Coronas for $5 at promo times!

I think they've been 300ml for some time.

Drink pricing changes from venue to venue, but we're still an easy 25-35% cheaper than Sydney or Melbourne... we also pay alot less for entry and tickets than the easter states.
overdoser
Usually $4/$5 for water, but I usually go get grog before I head off to town as well, obviously you get more for your money that way.
Jutsinr
I tend to give myself a limit of $25 on myself for drinks at raves or club nights, and each time that's worked out perfectly.

Beers I'd expect to pay from $5 - 7, and I'll only ever buy one or two when I'm at the actual event.

Water I'd expect around $4 - 5, and I normally buy three or four of these.

To be honest I don't think it's that expensive .. I mean in comparison to buying from a bottle shop or something - shit yeah; but comparing to other venues in Adelaide? It's all much of a muchness, and to me it's reasonable.
eternal Er
Well, cost me and a friend $5 each entry $2 each to use a coathanger and $9each for Corona in upstairs bar, and was my first drink and last drink there eva. Total $32 to have beer with a mate. Very unaustralian. Sounds like the duty manager doesn't even know what they charge for drinks....what hope do i have??

On a positive note entry and ticket prices are usually good @ most places smile.gif
PaulHamonr

Sure you don't want to add the cost of the petrol to the cost of the beers? And the wear on the tyres....

If all you wanted was a beer with a mate you should have got 2 from the bottle shop and sat on your front porch...
overdoser
Just think about it though, say you have a rave, the owners need to make up the price for decor, electricity, security, bar staff, DJs, MCs, and as you said, entry prices are usually cheap (as that is alot of time will draw people in for the first place, then they'd have to make it up on drink prices. I guess it depends on their supplier too.
nO_iRiSr
I dont drink alcohol at raves, at least not beyond one or two at the beginning of the night. As for water. If you dont like paying $4 for a 300ml, just go to a deli and get a 600ml for $2, some venues dont allow you to take water in with you though. Other alternatives are to buy one bottle and keep refilling it with tap water. Ive never had to pay $9 for a beer though, thats just crazy.

Yeh, ok im having a whinge. It's only the beer price that got me stirred up, im gonna have to rethink and have a couple on the porch before a night out.

Thanks for reality check.... blink.gif

Damn straight. If we're not paying through the nose for one thing, we'll do so for another, they have to make money somewhow tongue.gif.

I'm content with prices though.
missvixenr
yeah, next time go to the bottle shop and drink earlyer....

there is alot of things that will conrtibute to the prices of drinks and they will continue to rise, it costs alot to run a pub/club/rave....they have ppl to answer to and then ontop of that make a profit

sure the prices mihgt be really expensive....but then you need to look at how many expenses they have.

either go to a cheaper place...or..why dont you take it up with them if there is a real issue?...

Recon best bet is to have a couple @ a friends place (one closest to city) and share a cab after. biggrin.gif

DeLr
yeah i agree with some highprices.. im more of a drinker than anyhting else.

and i hate paying $4 for a 300ml bottle of water. if u are paying $4 for water it should atleast be a 600ml. this massiverly over priced 300ml bottles is bought as a slab of 24 for about 8$ at woolies,

as for beers, i drink pale. and anything above 6$ for a stubby is BS, schooners.. well ive given up on them now.. i only drink pints..

but yes the general trend at " night clubs" is to charge excessivly high prices..
PaulHamonr

Okies.. they're not high because they have pay for:

Security
Entertainment
Marketing
Lights/Sound
Insurance

They might be high compared to bottle shops but you get what u pay for.

And a bottle shop gives you a paper bag, that's all!

If you're think ur being hard done by.. go to Tokyo, London, Paris and find out how good we've got it here!
DeLr
ys we do have it good... BUT.. in reality when water costs more than a beer... theres an issue wink.gif

that is my only point...

now.. im getting readyt o demolish some $3 CC's tonight...

Venus biggrin.gif
Nitrousr
ive learnt the locations of cheap water stores near the big venues, so i will normally pay between $1 and $2 a bottle
asianfunkphenomenar
I think its cheaper to drink at home before going out. As I live closer to town, I find that most places do charge excessively especially where I work. its just nuts. The most i've ever paid for a drink was at the opening of St Pauls (that new night), something like $7.50 to $8 for a RTD. Ended up spending $200-odd throughout the night.

Only problem with starting drinks at home is that you cant drink too excessively.
philbertr
if the place i'm drinking at charges me over $7 for a simple Scotch and coke then they owe me the glass, guess it's incentive to stay there and collect the whole set smile.gif
DeLr
anda shot of alcky.. should not cost teh same as a glass with mixer...
absent1r
a matter of fact... it should all be free!

the amount of cash i have spent on alcoholic bevvys over the last few years is absolutely rediculous, some weeks the majority of my pay sad.gif one weekend i even blew all my pay except petrol and 'then' board. oh the joys of going into town with mates....

Wouldn't mind if the atmosphere was better @ Highlander, but everyone one seemed rude and pushy, trying to crack on to the girl i was with, it's not atmosphere worth paying extra for, i like the idea of collecting the set of glasses :)Beats smashing it on the dance floor like some other tools there were. Any way i ended up having a great night went to EARTH & RISE met some wonderful people and partied to the wee hours, then a stranger gave me a lift back to the car. biggrin.gif Thanks Alex. (I'll choose a venue i know with a decent DJ in the future)

I do because,
It's all because of you//
I'm feeling sad and blue//
You went away// and now,
My life is filled with rain//
And i love you so//
How much you'll never know//
Cause you took your love away from E//

i do believe that the average price of drinks is slowly going up, but indeed the average cost of living is going up, if your not prepared to spend $100 or so on alcohol in the city just don't drink when your out, i know i will always and at decedance i $$$$$$ uber cash that has been set aside... for beers, i love beer i would marry a beer, but the kids would be warped >< but yes everything is getting more and more expensive, a big mac is sumthing like $3.85 from Wst. Tce. maccas, was 3.55 at start of year everything up up up MWAH!!!!

Youve raised another interesting point, i don't know of any venues that will allow you to take water in or out for that matter. You'll notice many bottles of water sitting near the entrance of clubs. I can understand that i may not be able to bring water in coz it might be spiked or something. But if i need to get some chewies or go to the car, ill have to leave my water behind. Why can't i drink my overpriced water on the way back to the car??

As for refilling bottle wid luke warm Adelaide tap water eeww! tongue.gif
but beggers can't be choosers i surpose
LadyKr
At my 'beloved' place of work you will $5.50 for a stubby of vb, we, pale etc, $4.90 for light beer, and up to $8 for imported beer & $7 for spirits.
This has caused MANY arguements between management & guests at weddings but the manager is adament he needs to charge this much. probably true sinse he doesnt get much business laugh.gif
Personally Im more shocked that you will get charged $12.50 for a 1.5 litre jug of coke :blink:work out the mark up on that tongue.gif

I recon i'll have to make some custom phatt pants, and fill one leg up with beer and the other leg with water! laugh.gif

cost of living rises every year. its normal. hence why you get pay rises and why the world keeps turning. price hikes/inflation/etc/etc arent my problem, its that i cant seem to stop buying until i cant lol.

Ibiza = 4 quid (at the time, equivalent to nearly $12) in clubs for a 500ml bottle of water when I was there in 2001 and you WILL get sick if you drink the tap water. You cannot take any bottles into clubs at all. Luckily a 2 litre bottle only cost the equivalent of less than $1 at the corner shops......

In London, the minimum wage was less than 4 pounds an hour (irony: the parking meters out the front of McDonalds just off Piccadilly Circus were making more per hour than the kids working inside!!) and the price of a vodka + mixer in a club varied between 3 and 10 quid (depending where you went & what specials were on). I don't know of anywhere in Adelaide that charges more than twice the minimum hourly wage for a bevvy.....

How does PLUR some into the prices of alcohol laugh.gif

This is why i don't bother to drink when i go out. Only water, thats it smile.gif FAR less expensive, and i don't feel like i'm really missing out

Yeh we do alright in Adeliade, prices seem to vary a lot though considering all have similar overheads. I don't want to spend all night chasing happy hour.

Just had long liquid lunch, not sure how much it was, but i feel a little lighter...
after a few it doesn't seem to matter, until ya run out of dosh!

Geez Gezza, I'll steer clear of pom land....till im filthy rich smile.gif

Who cares its only money you get more the week after if you work. Your out to have a good time. I normally spend when i go out about 150 to 200 on grog and normally at the end im drinking Jacks so thats where the money goes. When i was in Sydney on the weekend i paid like $8.50 for a pale. I asked the bar tender can i have a coopers and he goes red or green, I said plae and he goes red or green?? I laughed and went green. If you worry bout beer prices do what i do, brew your own you can experiment and make a beer that suits you.

Ah, your lucky to find a Pale Ale in Sydney at all. Not sure if things have changed recently. But few years ago went to Camberra/Sydney for Summer Nationals.
Asking for a Coopers of any kind and they will look at you like your from another planet. Only found one place they said "i think we've got one out the back". They were all into Tooheys New etc. Don't know what they are missing out on....

Should have asked for a schooner or pint to really confuse the poor bugger
think they call em middys & pots blink.gif

Might leave brewing to experts.....too busy working to pay for my bad habits biggrin.gif

$55 a carton, must be Lion Nathan pushing price up to make their beer more appealing. Coopers is bout only thing they haven't got their grubby mitts on yet smile.gif

... goon.... oh how i love thee.

all alcoholic beverages, everywhere are over priced, alcohol should be free for everyone!!! The world would be a better place.

... i'm all for the home brew idea, we've got a kit at home and have some stout on at the moment (coopers of course), have done pales, ginger beer and more pales and we've only had the kit for a few months. It's not that time consuming and saves you a packet (unless you're toby and go by the theory that if you want to brew a carton of long necks you first have to drink a carton of long necks even if you already have bottles to use.)

Make the basic brews 1st dont get into Largers as you have to keep the temperture down near 11 degrees. Keep with ales thay ferment around 20degrees. The last i done was a pale with extra hops and malt. I had to boil up the hops and let it stand then added it. Cracked one open last night, still has the young taste to it but another week or 2 shell be gold! Am putting a sparkling down 2 night. Have to use ligh malt extract, 500grams dextrose and light malt.

If you ever want bottles, stuff the home brew shops ring a place called
Plasdene on [phone removed] thay have new stubbies and long necks ready to go. My stubbies cost like $5 a carton! thay are new to. Get into it as you can experimnet a tad to suit your taste. The next brew im going to do is a red barron. Its a real dark ale with a caramel flavour. With the sparkling im going to do a 6 pak with chilli! MAte had done it and it was great. It was cold and hot together, pretty cool

Goon????? Keep away thats chunder material!

Alcohol will be fairly cheap at Decadance I believe. PaulHamon always tends on doing the best deals he can with the venues he books. I remember around this time last year at an anthems event, can't remember which one, paying $4 for black Smirnoff's, I don't think you'll find much better then that round any pubs/clubs.

I guess the down side of having cheap grog is that you'll have many dickheads running round but you get that anywhere.

So next weekend, just compare prices at st.Pauls for Decadance and you should be pretty happy with those.
eternal Er
Centainly would be happy with $4-5 for Black Smirnoff, that's similar to bottle shop price?
Nice one PaulHamon smile.gif

Don't know if many would go to decadance and only drink??

PS: For those who don't already have tickets. Purchase from this web site @ $20each (no postage, booking fee, fast delivery) heaps of payment options. Venuetix works out closer to $35.
