Recently it has been revealed to me how apathetic i am to many situations in my life which i could easily overcome by just putting in a little effort. I dont know how many times i have shot myself in the foot by just not being bothered. so I was just wondering what people around here to get themselves motivated and use to stave off the always easy apathy.

Also once you are going how do you keep yourself going

I've been dealing with this problem for the past 21 years.

I tend to find a new plan or process to get the ball rolling, but it always wears off soon after beginning and I go back to being apathetic.

I've gotten to the point where I've accepted it's just who I am. Many ideas, many great plans, but no chance of following them up if I know it will take a large amount of motivation and focus.

I'm a bad example to follow on this one smile.gif

The problem is not doing things. I get things done which need to be done, and venture outside the box to do things which make my life more enjoyable and interesting .. it's only the larger scale things which take long-term motivation that I'm stuck on.

LIFE CAN BE AND IS GREAT WITH APATHY biggrin.gif

I'm a lazy fool. Can do most things I put my mind to... when I can be botered. tongue.gif

Its all about self dicipline.

i'vec noticed a fair change in myself lately. I guess its just constantly reminding yourself that your life is your own. No one is going to do anything for you. So get off your ass and do it!

*speaking of which I really need to get off this damn computer and clean this freakin house!*

im suprised at myself for writing this post.

something i find very useful but havent done lately is listenening to motivational tapes. one guy that does these tapes and also writes books that are amazingly motivational is Brian Tracy. you can download a lot of his stuff. theyve also helped me when ive been down. hes just one person that can motivate anybody, hes always pumped and you can hear it in his words. id love to be as motivated as him, but unfortunately im not most of the time. i guess one can find inspiration anywhere, you just need to be open to it, you need to want it. one other thing....turn that fuckin TV, OFF!! its a brain drainer.

check out - The Psychology of Achievement (Brian Tracy)

from the losers.

TV is the tool of satan! mad.gif

drug for the masses

I put it on with out even realising ohmy.gif

youve been brainwashed!!

but youre also not the type to waste your life away
michr
God, I'm the same as Jase, tv goes on without thinking about it. I only really pay attention the news and the rest is just background. My mind goes a billion miles an hour all the time, sometimes tv makes the voices stop and I can just calm down and relax for a change.. that can only be a good thing. :-)

I wouldn't call myself an apathetic person, I have motivation and I know what I need to do in order to get myself going, I don't feel limited by my abilities, I know I can do anything I want to if I put my mind to it. I think just knowing that has made me calmer in my life, I used to be in such a rush to do everything and have everything and it was never enough. I'm a naturally restless person (ask toby) and I get bored so very easily, I always have a heap of things I want to do but I also have to control myself and not get too carried away so that I can take time to enjoy the things that really matter like Toby, my wonderful friends, my family, my manky cat..... a little bit of apathy can be good at times, especially if you are like me and have the attention span of a fish. It's finding that happy medium though that counts.

Lacking in motivation is not something I will ever have to worry about, and if it appears that I am lacking it's probably because I really don't want to do it. And conversley, once I'm motivated to do something, I can't wait to start it and get so impatient when I can't just get into it straight away.

But like everyone, I have days where I just can't be f*cked doing anything... never lasts for long though and sometimes I wish I could just stop and let things be for a bit rather than being all go, go, go.... everyone needs time to stop and smell the roses, just not so much time that they get too used to it!!
KittiChikr
some days i'll feel motivated but then theres a million choices of things to do and i can never decide where to start....so i end up just sittin there trying to work it out and nothing gets done!!! then ya get the days where ya just dont even want to face the world...
I think its good to have positive ppl to help motivate you, not encourage you to slack off etc. Not having a job can really put a downer on me too, im at that stage where i just dont know what im doing!! but know ive gotta start soon or i wont get anywhere
missvixenr
i tend to lose my motivation during winter...

who the hell wants to get outta bed early in the morning...

then instead of doing my tafe work ill just keep procrastinating

LadyKr
Im lacking motivation to redo my resume sad.gif didnt save & i lost it.
I find procrastination is my biggest downfall- sure my resume needs doing, but i really should walk the dogs, have a shower, clean the house, prepare dinner, go see my mum.
Its always been a problem with me- leave things to the last minute & then avoid doing it- i dont know why it happens- it just seems that everything else annoys me by not being done- therefore it must be done before i can do what im supposed to be doing laugh.gif

I have three assignments due Friday, had all day today to do them, but nope....Im just too freakin' lazy...I love it! biggrin.gif

well... i can be one apathetic mofo but I've been through some times and situations where stuff i've put off has left me behind and i've missed out on something special, i still think about those times but when i do it inspires me to not to ever fucking do it again. i have a saying that helps me too "we all have one chance to do everything" and "do what you can while you can", but i think it's said best in Latin, Carpe Diem.

if something in your life has you down and you feel too apathetic to do other shit then you need to find out what's bringing you down and do something about it. if something in your life isn't what you want it to be then fix it, seriously it's as simple as that.

during my apprenticeship i was pretty down, apathetic and wanted out but made the choice to stick with it to get my papers - quitting an apprenticeship most of the way through doesn't look that hot on ya resume. i'd always been in to computers and was good at what i did so i planned to get some qualificatinos. I dedicated myself wholly to studying and doing it the best i could and a year and a half later the top people in the course i was doing were looked at to offer a position to, the lecturers who taught me saw my work was above the rest and in short they offered me the job. i'm now employed in the industry working with great people in a job i like doing. find something you're good at and go for it with all ya heart, who remembers second place??

don't let yourself be held down by 'right now', plan a way out, do what you want to do and if it doesn't work then try again cos it can and does work out. if not today then tomorrow, if not tomorrow then the day after that, so and so on, never stop fighting for yourself.

no if's, but's, maybe's or any excuses just do it...

if anyone's going to post after this giving an excuse of why they're apathetic or what ever i hope they get flamed, readin back to the first post aeon was askin for help not oppinions. sorry to be so blunt and point blank but life sure as hell aint sugar coated and sitting on a fuckin platter, you want something? you gotta work for it.

ending thought:

the only true constraint on our minds is ourselves...

Lol. I'm not apathetic, I'm just plain morose. I find it hard to get motivated at work because they use money as a motivator, and for some odd reason I don't really care about money... Maybe they should use a brand spankin new phone as incentive to actually do more work...

HMMMMM...

I have recently found the motivation to do a whole heap of things that I had wanted to do for ages or had stopped doing for way too long. Around the start of the year I was sleeping all the time smoking heaps of green getting drunk all the time and indulging in too many other substances and generally wasting time. After a couple of fucked up events around March I realised that my life just wasnt heading in the direction I wanted it to be and so I changed... everything.

Got back to the gym at least 3 times a week, started boxing again, quit weed (2 months now and a big factor in my apathetic existance) stopped getting drunk (still have a beer or 3 but tend to leave it there instead of heading north of 12 or so) quit ciggies (over 2 weeks now cold turkey) and havent touched anything else. Feeling about 100 times better about myself have heaps more energy to just do things instead of putting them all off like i used to. My friends that have known me the longest are in total disbelief given my previous appetite for anything mind altering but changes had to be made

Takes different things to motivate different people to do different things but at the end of the day if you want to do something bad enough you'll find your own motivation or look elsewhere for inspiration.

Who knows one day i might find the motivation to come out and meet some of you people... tongue.gif

I found out that i was nominated for being the most encouraging and most motivating dealer at work. That definitely made my night last night despite all the 'tards I had to put up with. So I guess my influence at work does help a bit biggrin.gif
