Running Your Car On Water!

i have just found some plans for converting ones car to run on water. i dont think id be able to pull this off myself (i really dont have the technical know-how) but i have a car that i would be willing to sacrifice in order to try and make these plans work. if anyone would be willing to help me out with this project im sure the benefits for all involved would be well worth the time spent. doesnt look too expensive either.

water car plans

also check this out, very interesting

water fuel video

when you get to this site, theres a little button that says click here to download about half way down the page

I imagine Simon/Joker would have the know-how to do at least part of the plans .. this should be interesting

yeah if we can get it to work, ill drive to zimbabwe and back and anyone who want s to come with - the fuels on me!!!

Would adelaide water make it run like shit?

I always wanted to go to Zimbabwe! They have a lot of dirt and flies over there.

We should attach some cardboard wings to it as well so the ocean doesn't cause us any problems when we're trying to cross it.

I thought this thread was about aquaplaining lol

if it works im sure there will be heaps of ppl willing to sacrifice their car....

ill help support the ppl doing it, seeing as tho i am no mechainc, but i can make coffee.....

bump

i will get to looking at i when my download is finished, i anit opening the page 4 me atm.

you should adapt it so it turns the water to gold as well then we wont have to work

hehehe nugget exhaust ... never work again and live like philosopher kings!

i personally wouldnt be willing to try it... The biggest 2 problems with hyrogen fuel atm is:

1. Hydrogen atoms cause something called 'hydrogen corrosion', which not much is known about, other than the fact that it SERIOUSLY reduces the strength of pretty much everything it touches (its thought that H2-->2H+ and begins to rapidly corrode everything it can get to), so storage wouldnt be very safe

2. There is a reason why they stopped using hydrogen in blimps.... *cough* hindenburg *cough*

well theres already a hydrogen powered car on the market, i saw it on the tv.

this is the way of the future. its only a matter of time before all cars will be either electric or water powered.

sceptics dont get anywhere. everyone told alexander graham bell he was a fruitloop.

they all must have been right......

There are hydrogen cars on the market, absolutely, but there is a reason why they are so expensive. Firstly the fuel tank is made to freeze if its ruptured so that the car doesnt explode, and secondly they are made from REALLY high quality material to stop the oxidation.. And from the look of these plans, they really dont seem safe...

ok so i could blow myself up if. great! just when i thought that there was a possible way out of this petrol fiasco.

still, could be worth it. i might not have a face but i'd have free fuel!!

Dont we already have a big enough problem with water restrictions??
This will only create a higher demand for water... ??

de-selinisation plants are quite common in europe... even surraige water is usable... Quite a good idea... BTW it doesn't produce pure hydrogen as a product.... byproducts is water... what it does is turn it into a di-hydrogen oxygen molecuel, a differnt structure to H2O...

for some reason i cant load the page but let me weigh in on the subject anyways
If the conversion is easy and safe, why havent all the car companys launched models already or aleast there be more debate internet and worldwide
scince when do you trust half the shit that you read on the internet
hydrogen will not only corrode everything in sight (for the uninitiated H+ is the active part of every bronstead acid on earth)
hydrogen as a fuel is an interesting idea, but it needs alot more forethought before we just barrel into it blindly

if you want someone can get me a copy of the plans and i will show them to a few uni profs and let them pick huge holes in the idea. im sure the chem eng plant design department will have a good laugh

wow, what a poorly put together post on my part... must be late cbf fixing it

lol Aeon

I think we should all just walk everywhere. there isnt enough poeple presence on the streets.. walking everywhere would reduce obesity, increase fitness, increase safety, save money, and save lives.

im going to bed now

Well Aeon, i think oil companies have massive stakes in the Automotive industry... U think this guy is the first guy to have invented a water engine? The last few guys have dissapeared tho... Money speaks in the ears of the oil moguls... I'm not a conspiracy theorist, just little known things.

thats a pretty far fetched arguement.... are you not aware of how flamable/explosive petrol fuel and its vapor is?

and im sure its stored in a safer compartment then a plastic coated fabric balloon

if LPG can be safely fitted into cars, hydrogen can too.

just a matter of time...

i know what your talking about, but hang in there....

for natural gas (not lpg, but a close enough equivalent weight to energy ratio as LPG):

CH4(g) + 2O2(g) -> CO2(g) + 2H2O(g) DHq = -882 kJ mol-1

For Hydrogen:

H2 + 1/2 O2 -> H20 DHq = -286kJ mol-1

Now, while it looks like natural gas gives of more energy (well, it does ), it also weighs 8 times as much as a H2 atom, and consumes alot more space.

Therefore, on an equivalent mole basis, H2 produces 2288kJ mol-1... Which is ALOT of energy.

Its critical point is also much lower than that off natural gas, meaning it is much more dangerous to store, and combusts much more easily.

Im not saying that hydrogen cant be fitted safely to cars, if you read my other posts, im saying it can, my argument is that the plans to do it (in the initial post) are not safe. At all. They give no safe means of storing the hydrogen, and no safety devices if the tank ruptures, thats it....

i assume you meant an equivilent mass basis above

man the engineers are getting fired up on this one

yeah, my bad...

and i am getting fired up, i JUST did a semester of these problems in materials 3, hehe

personaly my 2 favorite parts of the plan are where they are reffering to you getting free energy which is a physical imposibility according to the 1st law of thermodynamics and the part where they recomend you using tap water for the reaction

To whomever is considering this reaction to power their car, use distilled water or you will have to rebuild your reaction vesstle every 6 months

6 months? mate, youve done fouling reactions, it will take less than a fortnight to loose 50% of its efficiency...

ahh good old calcium and magnesium

its certainly not free energy... just renewable...

just takes electricity and water

isnt the hydrogen made in the process? wouldnt that mean that you dont need to store it? i dunno im not an engineer. but if its worked for others why cant we make it work? and if the plans are shit then does anyone have any real plans that DO work? and if your so smart that you can pick these plans apart, youre proabaly smart enough to make plans that you cant pick apart right? it would be well worth you time in doing so, if you can be bothered that is.

thats right and its CLEAN

heres the downloaded plans (probably should've done this in the first place, sorry)

its all good, i got them finaly

the hydrogen doesnt get stored for long periods, rather it accumulates under pressure before it can be fired into the engine.

we are not trying to be negative about the idea as such, we are just trying to point out some things which may cause issue in the future. unfortionately i do not have the knowlege base to be able to provide you with solutions to these issues (as of yet) but if you are seriously considering this venture i will work with you to the best of my abilitys, just understand it may not work to the standard that they are claiming.

By the way i wouldnt go near it if you are planning on using a peice of pvc pipe as your reaction vessle as per the plans, i will see if i can find you something more suitable, ie something that will not corrode but is still good under pressure.

ok, my questions are these...

how much energy is required to split water in to H2 and O?
how much energy does the burning of H2 and O give us?
can we use the idea of the 6 stroke engine, by using water for a steam powered 6th stroke, as the making of water creates a fair bit of heat?
how can hydrogen be corrosive to metals? isn't it the negatively charged O atom's that fuck ya door seals H+ should repel all metalsdue to its charge...

and why are people so affraid of hydrogen tanks?? in it's pure state it's perfectly safe, just don't mix it with oxygen or chlorine....

note: the hindenberg was completely covered in a waterproof - yet highly flammable - paint. the video of the cinder-burg showed a yellowy flame spewing black toxic smoke in to the air, doesn't hydrogen burn pretty cleanly?...

hydrogen burns completely clear (in perfect conditions) so what is seen in the hindenburg photo is the flamable skin for the blimp, this does not mean that the hydrogen fire is not there.

the gibbs free energy for the elecrolosys of water into hydrogen and oxygen is 474.4 kJ per mol
I believe the free energy of combustion of hydrogen is only about 230kJ per mol but will track the data down later
