21st B-day Ideas

OK, Well I turn 21 this year and I wanna get my celebrations organised as well as I can because I want my 21st to be great...

So I'm wondering if any of you out there have any ideas, suggestions, do's and don'ts? Maybe you went to a 21st and it was good for a particular reason?

hot time or cold time?

Theme, Booze, a DJ or hire a Jukebox ... jukebox is always kinda better because sometimes DJs get lame uness you pay out. LOTS of people!

I couldn't get any of the DJs that I'd want anyway, because I'll have to cater for many peoples tastes...So I was already on the jukebox track...

I was thinking of doing a Bad 80s Fashion theme cuz I was born in the awesome era of the denim suit, yes yes, my 21st is this year also.

Depends if you wanna make your friends dress up like idiots, which I often do.

Pirates are big... 'Emo' would be a hilarious theme.

Well i couldnt decide so i decided to go for this whole EVERYTHING theme....

80s could be fun, considering you were born in the 80s ... i think rob would look funny as Gene Simmins.... or Tom Cruise where he is wearing the shirt, tightie whities and sunnies

Yer I'd LOVE a theme...Just not too sure what...I've thought of Moulin Rouge, yer 80's (done that before years ago at a friends party, was awesome)...Celebrity...That kinda stuff...But nothing has really caught my interest yet...

For my 18th I did a theme party, all my friends had to come as something starting with the letter G, you could use the first letter of your name.

Had some damn funny costumes, mainly Gangsters but one male friend came as 'gay' in denim short shorts and a pink halter bikini. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time, my birthday is in June and it was like 10 degrees and the party was held outside

And it's hard enough getting people to dress up...Let alone getting them to dress down in front of everybody

Being more serious though; I'm so bad with original party ideas - I'm a traditional partier

I've seen ppl who have done like 1920's theme.. with the girls in their flapper dresses and head pieces.. looks really sexy!

then they go out on the town! definatley attacts attention!

One of my friends went to a dress up 30th... the theme was famous/well-known TV characters.
Also there's the party where every1 had to wear wigs. Then there was a masquerade for my work's end of financial year dinner... every1 wore masks.

my cuz did a 21st where you come dressed as something that begins with the first letter of your name. I went as Johnny Knoxville, which also made it acceptable for me to get way pissed and fall off things/etc

No a theme is a "Theme" because it isn't something that people normally wear...And considering how much I will be raving this year I don't wanna be bringing out my kandii on a weekend off

Nah, the dresses are pretty easy to pick up, second hand shops etc.. and the guys only need to rock up with a tommy gun! haha.. gangsta style!


i think hiring out a hall seems a much better idea.. especially if you plan on having alot of ppl.. makes cleaing up alot easier.. just one big broom!

plus you don't want gatecrashes coming round and breaking things. i don't think halls are to expensive!?!

I didn't have ANY problems with GateCrashers at my last party, which was here at home...And I didn't have to clean up much either The people who were still awake did it for me

OK guys, as far as theme goes, I have that all sorted

Now there's a few things that I need some ideas and information (if anyone has any)

Firstly: Function rooms with a bar. A bar is a must. Price is no issue. Preferrably town or North direction. Either is fine.

and Secondly: Buses. Depending on where I have it I would like to hire a bus, that way people have no excuse for not drinking, or not coming or anyhitng like that.

If anyone has ANY information, or advice, or any comments at all that they'd like to put forward then please do

RSL's or Footy clubs are good places for things like that because they always have bars and lots of room.

Yer, I know that...only problem then (and I should have mentioned this earlier) is that I need bar staff who know how to make Cocktails...I know they would have got taught, but I'm going to require staff who are pretty good at it and know exactly what they're doing

The (ex) eden bar where HQ is was great as a 21st venue...inside and out etc. really useful staff when came to booking too....i got for free with over 100 guests

There's a place on O'Connel St that I went to for a 21st, on the top floor of one of the pubs, the one opposite the AB places and just up from the Bakery, I forget what it's called but they did awesome cocktails.

I went to a 21st a while back at the Griffins Head Hotel (corner of Grenfell St) in the city, could be the same one Gabbie is talking about.

The girl hired out the whole top room tho but there is already bar staff etc there

HQ has got some great rooms that you can actually hire out and all my friends work behind the bar. Have a look around the HQ website.

Or hire out Cherry Bomb and I'll be your Mixologist for the evening. I'm sure Liam and Chonny could whip something up as well. I also have a Responsible Persons licence but I think I'd be tempted to take little bits of sips here and there.
