Need Help Finding A Job?

i have noticed a few threads in the past asking people for work and a few people losing their jobs

so i thought we could use a thread to
smile.gif list any jobs going
smile.gif Ask about any available employment
smile.gif Help others to gain employment
smile.gif And everything else to do with not having a job

...perhaps we can all keep and eye out for one another when searching through job listings

just to kick it off
for the online job searchers-

www.seek.com.au

www.jobsearch.gov.au

www.mycareer.com.au

www.nowhiring.com.au

www.careerone.com.au

www.positionsvacant.com.au

any more?

ALSO

www.acpeople.com.au

www.jobjuice.gov.au

are both helpful for Interview tips, Resume Writing, and Cover letters
~Em~
www.psgazette.gov.au for govt positions

Hmm well my only request is that if anyone is browsing seek.com and come accross ANY Cafe type jobs that they could email or PM me the details...

I can look up the other sites myself but for some reason my browsers aren't set to enable the cookies from seek.com and I have never been able to get it working.

Thanks

seek.com.au almost never has hospitality jobs on there... don't even have it listed as a category....
{Bunny}

Hmm...Disregard what I said then...
~Em~
I remember seeing someone say (either here or on RA) that Bakers Delight at welland is looking for people - counter staff I believe so would be retail hours, not bakers hours... fair hike from your place, not really cafe work... but still within the industry...

might be worth checking out?
missvixen

http://www.perecorp.com.au/employment/current_vacancies.php

There is hospitality dedicated Agencies...

Dont recall any atm. Will look and see...

All the work I have had in the past few years has been through Agencies, never had a bad word spoken of me, but then again I work too hard for my own good.

Spotless is a hospitality agency, they do all the catering at events and thing and i'm not sure about other times, but yeah, they fill the corporate boxes with food and booze and stuff at clipsal and i THINK the ashes..

The last few agencies I have been with have been rude and unhelpful. I know I shouldn't brand them all that way...But when it's more than just one, I can't help it.

www.eurest.com.au may be of some help to you Lucy...

They are a catering type company and run cafeteria's in Uni's etc, and also kitchens in retirement homes, EDS @ Lockleys and other businesses that have onsite cafeteria's... right accross Adelaide

My old house mate used to work there/or still does, not sure.

4am...That's gotta suck...I've done it before though...

Uuh I DO need a job, but most places also won't hire people that are too far away...Especially in hospitality because your roster can change alot, and sometimes at the last minute.

And since I don't have my P's yet it's a bit tough...

Yer I'm trying...But my cars diff was up the shitter...It gets fixed Thursday though...So then I'll be able to drive my car...Until it gets sold sad.gif I'm hoping that takes a while hehe...

But still there's plenty of jobs out there that don't require you to have your licence...it's just finding them...

Lately all the good jobs have been in the western and southern suburbs - two words for that "F*ck no!!"

Think so ... and then there is that new P1 and P2 crap that i dont get...

Its just hard with the whole getting to and from work without your own transport, because public transport is getting expensive as of late. Like $3 or something for a 1 way bus ticket?! Bleh!

If you can afford to own, run and maintain a car then you should be able to afford the $3.60 that is a bus ticket.

And for unemployed people there's such a thing called "Concession"...So instead of paying almost $30 for a "Multitrip" ticket...I only pay $16 smile.gif So 10 trips for $16 is pretty good!

You wouldn't be able to own, run and maintain a car on $16 a week!

You have a point. laugh.gif
~Em~
yep and full price ones are only about $25ish....

still much cheaper than driving.

Even when I did have a car, I still took the bus into work. actually takes me less time to catch the bus then it does to drive from my house to the city... then there's the extra time finding a park let alone PAYING for parking (highway robbery I tells ya)

and on that note.... back to the topic at hand smile.gif

I'm looking for a position that falls under administration/call centre/reception/data entry/sales.

thats where all my current experience lies, mostly from either insurance and finance, and the telecommunications industries.

Been applying for jobs and having interviews like crazy.... will still be doing that... but thought it definitely can't hurt me posting in here what I'm after!!

if anyone knows/hears of anything, i'd greatly appreciate it if you could let me know.

cheers!

Buy a scooter and you'll find the expense of travelling around the place becomes cheaper than fukc.

.. if you're super cool you'll buy a motorbike instead so you can give the scooter riders shit, still have cheap transport, and have a whole stack of fun in the meantime biggrin.gif

I'm installing a flux capacitor on my bike next week so I can go back in time and stop you from being born. THEN YOU'LL NEVER RIDE AGAIN WAHAHAHAHAHHAA.

PS: My suggestion for finding a job would be to drop in resumes at anywhere local to you (places that you actually want to work) - it doesn't hurt to get out there, show your face and leave some details with people .. you never know what's going but not being advertised - or what might be going very soon.

.. that, and agencies. Westaff seem to pwn pretty hardcore when it comes to finding me jobs (given this was about two years ago, but they did an awesome job).

The IT knowledge, well most of it is taught on the job, as its a industry specific application that you will be supporting... its preferable to have knowledge in IIS, .Net and probably SQL, but i would say DEFINATELY not required as they seem to be trying to pull the possition away from the technical side of things and more into the customer relations thing... currently there are about 400 clients u need to be able to deal with.
And prioritise which is the most importand issue to be dealing with. I used to do alot of the repairs of the softwaer my self but i believe they are pushing this over to the development team so you wouldnt really need to be repairing databases or anything like that... i think the hardest thing would be basically recieving calls and assigning them to the appropriate person.

there is a system implimented to record all calls and details of the call, not the best but it works... ill pm u an email address to send ur resume to

I don't have any job openings atm and our pay rate is incredibly low, you wouldn't want to come work for me. Some 14yr old dude and his mate got attacked by a bunch of school kids yesterday, one of them got away and came into my store yelling all the police and then semi-passed out on my counter, leaving all the glass covered in blood. Because of the lights we've got under the display most of the blood dried to the glass pretty quick. Took me forever to clean.

Was that because of that war craft expansion? Heard all the little 14 year old computer geeks that live in their basements with their hands glued to their keyboard with only their Poindexter lenses separating their faces from their computer screens have gone wild and started beating the crap out of each other to get their grubby paws on it.

Hhahaha good old Holdens and ewizabeth. I know to many people who work there and its so true.

My theory is that i dont really care what i do to an extent as long i have security so i can do the things i want to do in MY time and pay to eat and pay for my mortgage im happy. I think as long as that is coverd for me it would over ride a crappy job anyday If you find something that you like doing thats well wicked and go for it hard. I dont complain about my job. 1stly i get paid good, the people i work with are champs even tho they are in Sydney and its laid back and accounting to my needs. Ive worked for way worse then what i do now so i can appreciate what i do.

I just work to live not live to work.

And for those who dont have a job. Get a job!!!! hahahahah only joking. As long as your looking you will find something. I know of people who dont even bother looking and they expect a job to come to them. So your doing good getting out there and looking for one. Dont let the knock back bring ya down. Its there loss.

just a brief letter outlining the position you are applying for (never take it for granted that the job you're applying for is the only one they have going), your most recent experience and why you think you're suited to the role. doesn't have to be long, just has to introduce you to them

QUOTE(careerone.com.au)
A cover letter should demonstrate to the reader that you have read the job ad carefully and that you are truly interested in that particular job.  Many hiring managers will not even look at a resume that does not come with a cover letter.

The cover letter should:

Be to the point. Should clearly link your experience to the role being advertised.
Be no more than three to four paragraphs long.
Be positive and upbeat. Make the hiring manager interested in reading your resume.

The cover letter should NOT:
Be a summary or repeat of your resume.
Be a uniform letter you send with all job applications.

Here are some examples:

Dear Madam/Sir, I read with interest your advertisement seeking an advertising sales professional, as I believe I possess the attributes necessary to make the role a success.
As you will see from my resume, I have a proven track record in advertising sales as well as selling to all levels of management in the tourist/hospitality/travel sector in 14 different countries including Australia.

Adept at leading a team or working as part of a team, I am also an enthusiastic self-starter able to work from home. I have initiative and loads of drive. My personal motto is: "Never give up". Technical skills include telephone and face-to-face selling, Word, Outlook and Excel software proficiency and strong communication skills.

I hope to have an opportunity to meet with you to discuss how I could contribute to your team.

Yours sincerely,

Your name

Mr John Smith,
Operations Manager,
XYZ Car Dealership,
MacGregor,
Queensland 4109.

Dear Mr Smith,

I am writing in response to your advertisement seeking a customer services manager to run XYZ Car Dealership's service centre.

As you will see from my enclosed/accompanying résumé, my skills and experience are a good match for the position you are now trying to fill.

Of particular relevance is my five years experience working in a similar role and the award I received for excellence in customer service.

I'm aware of the high value XYZ Car Dealership places on service and believe I share the same philosophy on customer care.

I look forward to having an opportunity to meet with you to discuss how I could contribute to your team.

Yours sincerely,

Bill Brown

anyone considered doing a traineeship or apprenticeship? New govt iniatives mean that they're not just for kids who don't want to stay at school, govt will supplement your wage so you get paid like an adult while you learn a trade/career.
Anything to do with Manufacturing and the types of appreticeships/traineeships available in the field let me know - I work in that industry and it's my job to promote it people who might want to look that way career wise. There is so much work out there in so many different sectors and your trade learned skills are transferrable so you'll never be out of work. Think things like mining, defence, automotive, fabrication, textile industries... even the high end engineering and laboratory operations - some big paying jobs if you're committed. It's not all screwing lids on cordial bottles, if I didn't already work in the industry I'd look at it as a future prospect, wages will only go up as demand for workers increases and that's happening rapidly due to the mining and defence projects in SA.

congrats on the job Aeon

If anyone has experience in hospitality (preferably with a bit of wine knowledge) PLEASE PM ME!!!! If I had a dollar for every one of my customers who's asked me if I know anyone who wants some bar/waiting work, I'd be a rich girl!

All kinds of places, ranging from pubs to fine dining restaurants, usually 20 - 30 hours per week and both day & night work. Also people to work at the North Adelaide Food & Wine Fair on Sunday 18th March. There's a massive shortage of good hospitality staff - are any of them reading this thread???? unsure.gif

You can do a lot by correspondence nowadays, so you could do it in your own time too...

there is a place called Nepaste that are looking for waiting staff, they are on George Street (Fullarton I think - that side of the city anyway). They are a Nepalese Rest. No other details sorry - just noticed the sign the other day.

also in regards to couriers - they have foot couriers etc that do runs around the city. Toby started out doing that with Toll and had zero experience. It's no glamour job but it's not hard either. Majority of the work is shifts too so you can kind of pick what works best for you. They're pretty flexible. Toby was studying and doing that full time and it worked out fine.

Toll also do mail room stuff and some of that is nights. If anyone is interested in that type of work PM and I'll see if Toby can find anything out. They seem to be hiring people all the time. It's not rocket science nor is it particularly hard - take a look at some of the Toll DX guys wandering around the city with their sack trucks and carts next time you're in the city - if they'll hire half those guys they'll hire anyone!!!

I know Toll do all their recruiting for this kind of work for Adecco so you can contact them or as I said, pm and I'll eventually get around to it and ask Toby if he knows of anything. No point pm'ing him, he wont read it.

Ok this is a number of my work, they employ general staff that do ticketing and stuff like that, we work the football and cricket, fmf, enchanted, concerts at AAMI and the theberton, Clipsal 500 and all the awesome venues, its about $15 an hour for general staff but the perks are awesome.

Weslo Staff - 82231450

Cherry Bellini on Rundle Street are looking for someone to do around 15 hours a week - lucky I already have a job, otherwise I'd end up spending all my cash on their shoes if I worked there!!!

There's also a new Thai restaurant opening in Brahma Lodge in about 2 - 3 weeks & they're looking for a chef & front of house staff. Not much experience is required for the front of house staff, as long as you have the right attitude!

Assagio on King William Street are looking for a waiter - you need to be very cluey about food & wine, as they're a top class restaurant. The position is part-time to start with, looking to go full-time within a couple of months.

Also still have a million other hospitality jobs going - PM me if interested in any & I'll hook you up!

Thats excellent. I'm currently studying the pre-entry police course, Cert 3 Justice Studies and applying at the beggining of next year. This year my goals are to join a few volunteer groups, ie,red cross, st johns and to get fit pretty much.I'm doing taekwondo and going to the gym so hopefully by next year I'll be much fitter:)

You say you've been approved;to what stage have you been approved?Have you done the psyche test, fitness test and interviews etc yet?

I know of someone who didn't get in because they couldn't pull the trigger of the gun with their left hand...spewing!!

If anyone knows of any welding jobs going in the western/northern areas let us know as a mate is out of work. He is a qualified boiler maker and is very good at his trade
mich
Harley get him to get into contact with someone like Adelaide Training and Development. They were Port Adelaide Training and development but has since branched out and might be able to steer him in the right direction. Until the end of this week at least I work in the Manufacturing Industry and I know there are massive shortages of suitably qualified boilermakers... all of them are heading into the mining and defence industries (another option for him to explore - they pay well too). You can also get him to call my work and ask my boss if he knows anything too. Derek from the Manufacturing Industry Skills Advisory Council. [phone removed]... he works closely with industry so might be aware of something or someone who can help your mate further.

Firstly, I should've probly pointed out, I work for Tunza Fun, Tea Tree Plaza smile.gif

Yesterday I found out my boss is firing two of my staff for theft. This is most annoying because I'm only babysitting the TTP store while the other manager is on 3 weeks holidays.

We need one Junior and one Senior. Junior position (5-15 hrs) is best suited to someone school age. Involves serving customers and running children's birthday parties smile.gif

Senior position (5-20hrs) is best suited to someone at TAFE or Uni. Involves serving customers, fixing games, rotating weekend roster etc.

If you are interested or know anyone who might be interested, get them to go down to the TTP store and fill out an application or drop off as resume but our application forms ask everything I'll need to know.

This needs to be done asap as I might have to run interviews and hire someone this wknd, not sure yet what's going on.

Um... don't take this the wrong way, but if you are unemplyed, in their eyes, you DO need help finding a job.

and don't look at it as a bad thing, they teach you some really helpful things.

HELP is not a bad thing. and its also not a bad thing to ASK for help

I just went to an interview today, got my time wasted so im not too impressed.

Got an email from him wanting me to come in for an interview so I think score, get there and realize he's looking for someone completely different then ends the interview after 5 minutes. I understand ending the interview early but if he had of read my resume he could have avoided wasting time.

Centrelink are a bunch of complete morons, the system is designed in a way that gets you off their back as fast as possible.

They will tell you to look for ANY job no matter what it is and will stop your payment if you don't, not only does this waste your time you have to be trained and end up working somewhere you hate. I mean its one thing to tell people to be realistic but its quiet another to sabotage their job seeking.

Not sure if its been mentioned (I skipped a few pages) but you'll find most recruitment agencies will keep your resume on file so if you're in IT like me pick out the big recruitment agencies and send them all your resume. This way if a job comes up they have you on file and will match you with their clients requirements. This is another thing centrelink will harass you on, if they notice you are putting down jobs advertised through the same recruitment agency (regardless if they keep you on file) they fill warn you or stop your payment.

Good luck finding a job, its not as easy as people think unless you're in an industry with high staff turnover or is highly specialized.

well, my dream job would be lying by a pool, being fed fresh fruit and alcohol by the hottest guys on the planet.

my second dream job would be to dance all day every day.

But...

the closest thing I'm going to get to my dream job in REALITY... is the one I'm about to start. if you take all of the things I have enjoyed about all of my jobs over the past 10 years and combine them into one... thats what THIS job is!!

This is true...When I first left school and was looking for a job I was told by one of their Job Agenices that I HAD to apply for 10 jobs per day. Well that's all good and fine, if there WAS 10 jobs for me to apply for, as I had just left school I had no skills. I knew what I wanted to get into, and so did they, yet they still pushed me. So one day I had had enough, I cold canvased EVERY SINGLE cafe, snack bar, deli, and hotel with my Cold Canvas Letter and my Resume...It was 300 odd applications, and I told them that I had done montsh worth of stuff and that I wouldn't come back until I needed their services...I actually got away with it too...I never got a job from any of the 300 Applications, but I did get alot of calls for interviews even though I had no experience...I actually ended up with 2 of the jobs that I had FIRST applied for smile.gif

To meet the requirements of a Jobseeker with CENTRELINK yes, it is 10 per fortnight.

But when you get put into a Jobseeker Intensive Support Programe and get sent to...Say Jobs Statewide they ask 10 jobs of you PER DAY. And you are required to do so many hours there. When I first went on it fresh from highschool I had to go everyday. Mon, Wed and Fri it was 9 - 4 and Tues and Thurs it was 12 - 4 or something like that...

They now have me on the same Intensive Support bullcrap, and want me to be at Elizabeth Jobs Statewide 3 days a week from 9:30 until 4:30 ( I don't go, I don't need 8 hours of my day wasted 3 days a week )

Same as when I did a Business Course through centrelink. I was required to look for 10 jobs per day.

It's their way of pushing you into a job that you don't want to do...If they palm you off for Intensive Support, then someone else gets to hassle you about it. And if you don't meet the requirements, like not showing up, and not searching for 10 jobs per day then you get reported and can have your "benefits" cut off.

I don't know if it's still the same now, as, like I said, I don't attend my Intensive Support sh*t...But that is what it was 4 years ago, and a year ago when I did my business course...

Then there was the psych test, which i came out of not sure if i was happy or sad or if liking to go to parties was a good thing laugh.gif
Then the Australian Idol type interview, which I passed with flying colours from what they told me.
OMG life feels so good after a good interview smile.gif

for what job? oneeyed01.png

Bexter
GSL, prisoner transportation. Pays well, but I will be cuffed to a prisoner for up to 3 hours in a hospital waiting room, and will spend 12 hours in the same room as them alone, and this isnt just ones doing time for fraud.. this is repeat secks offenders, child abusers (all kinds), and murderers.
missvixen
i couldnt do that job... id have trouble restraining myself from beating them down laugh.gif

...the job i want is counselling sexually abused children tho smile.gif
Bexter
Yeah laugh.gif see one of the questions they asked me was how I would feel being cuffed to a child secks offender compared to someone done for driving without a licence or something, going through my head was the whole, if the sex offender looked at me the wrong way i'm digging those cuffs into his arm...
Harley
i would be giving them all the rite answers so i can just get that job then go hell for leather on the sicko's. These people have no place in society and thats even in jail

Anyways goodluck for the position

check out seek.com.au don't rely on job network places, they're all fukin useless!!! I went on there monday last week and applied for 3 jobs by email... 2 employers called me the same day and arranged interviews, one of them asked me to start work the next day!!! the third job, my preferred one, called back 2 days later but by that stage i was already employed biggrin.gif

seek and you shall find!!
~Em~r
job network places are useless, yes.

Recruitment agencies are golden.

the difference?

Job Network places are government funded and get their payments from the govt on how many hours you do at a job they put you in. They work inline with centrelink. they don't give a shit what job you are doing, as long as it is a job. they are often low paying roles as well.
you'll find these places advertise their jobs on jobsearch.gov.au

recruitment agencies are privately owned/nothing to do with the government. they are hired by their clients - the employers - so their main focus is to find the right person for the job to keep their clients happy. whats the main part of finding the right person for the job? finding the righ job for the person winksmiley02.gif
you'll find these recruitment companies advertise on seek.com.au winksmiley02.gif

all of the places I listed above are private recruitment companies. not government funded job networks. they are two very different things!

As a fully trained / qualified Correctional Officer (OPS-2) you will receive $38,557 - $41,732 per annum.

even at fully qualified rate... $41k... does not equate to $1k per week.

to my calculations, $41k per annum, works out that you'd be taking home around $600-$650 per week.
Bexter
My mate works there and takes home over $1k per week. And because of the fact that the gaols are full, there are penalty rates for staying back an extra 4 hours, so yeah, its not as shit as you think.
And working in a gaol isnt bad, ive been to yatla (not behind the perspex), walked around there, seen the crims, most the time they just want to do their time and get out.

an extra 4 hours?

so you'd have to do 12 hour days to make decent money?

Pass.
froggy
i agree as soon as i saw $41,000 a year i had to work it out its $802 before tax a week. Too risky job for not enough pay! Overtime fair enough, but still to get $1000 per week clear you woudl have to do maybe $350 - $400 a week in overtime, thats a lot of extra work!

And the conditions you explained at that much better than any other job i have heard of, except you get 2 extra sick days a year.

I'm looking for a new job. I think it's time for a bit of normality now after being in the entertainment/gaming industry for over 5 years. I'm over working these weekend shifts every night and day. If there's anything coming up, let your dear old Sangster the Gangster know about it.

I need people to work at the Norwood Food & Wine Fair this Sunday (2nd March), selling wine (so you must be over 18). 2 x shifts from 3-6pm, payment is in wine, which is based on the award rate of $20.00 per hour (so you'll get about 1/2 dozen, your choice of Peter Lehmann products)

You don't need to know anything about wine, just how to read a label so you pour the right one for the customers!! tongue.gif There's also some money handling involved.

There will possibly also be an opportunity for the same type of work for the Wellington Square Food & Wine Fair in early April.

Please PM me ASAP if you're interested or have any questions.
