I had the idea of this thread before. What things do you find cheap?

Supermarket bargains, things you will and wont go cheap on.

Lets help save everyone a buck or two :P

I tend to look out for specials.. like some weeks certain brands are on special and i'll buy them. Like with tuna cans, theres always a way to find them for $1. Its one week on and one off for certain brands. Same with bread, yoghurt.

alway's go for the cheap bread coz you can freeze it and honestly it's just bread.. if it goes a bit stale then toast it! haha

don't shop at Coles... survey's have proven that coles are overall more expensive then Woolworths.
SPiDER
tim tams $1.99 at woolies this week :D im stocking up :D

Meat (steak especially) thats reduced for quick sale. The expiry warning is just a guide.

My dad used to be a meat inspector, he got the reduced for quick sale stuff, kept it in the fridge for a few days then cooked it... Made the meat incredibly tender.

Hey, in Iceland they bury their meat (shark) and let it rot for a few weeks before they mung out on it.

It can't be that bad

go shopping @ coles in the morning on sunday and go straight to the bakery section there you will find heaps of reduced bread for $1 and the bread is only yesterdays.

so we buy up and freeze, way cheaper then me paying $4 for a loaf of bread

also if u get junk mail have a browse through that for weekly specials
:)
KittiChik
yeah i do that too... the coles reduced section is GREAT! back at my old coles i'd find all sorts of goodies for like $1-$2
Fulcrum
Loaves of white bread is $1 at all On the Run service stations...

It's probably crap and bad for you, but it's CHEAP!!!! Like the budgie!! :)

Bread is not just bread, especially if you like sandwiches. I for one CANNOT use bread for sandwiches when it starts going stale. I have to have them fresh :D But yes, then when it starts going stale I use it for toast.

And I keep hearing all this b*llshit about Coles being more expensive...And I honestly think it's just that, BS. Everytime I've shopped at Woolworths it has been alot more expensive than as at Coles.

I have shopped at Coles for AGES now and will continue to do so :)

Yer, their bread is pretty good actually...Usually nice and fresh when we go there.

I actually don't look for the bargains and stuff when it comes to grocery shopping...Just buy what I need to buy...I don't want to go without and wait for it to go on sale, and I don't want to change brands and find out that I don't like it...

Country Split bread is awesome, and its usually cheap too :)

thats just my say.

Well there's a problem with that Rob, since I don't even know where there would be a "Drake Foodmarket" close to me...And why would I go anywhere else when I like Coles? :P

A bit far?

Earth to Rob...

I live in Parafield Gardens

ANYWAY! Back on topic here...If you do like to hunt for bargains, then the only thing I can suggest is to look through the junk mail. And if you like your veggies and fruits cheap, then go to some markets.
Bexter
Meat is also good to get at the butcher... There is this awesome one near TTP i think its near those electrical places, like retravision or something.. i think thats where it is.. near the medical center.
Pretty cheap there.

Yer, we get most of our meats from Lennards.

4 chicken fillet steaks for $11
4 cordon blur thingoes for $11
and 4 chicken parmigana thingies for $10

Pretty sweet deals if you ask me!
KittiChik
Yeah I find I go between Coles and Woolies... depends who's got the bargains. But I find i'm at coles alot more.

Some of the reduced bread is really good just check the dates and I keep bread in the fridge in the heat as it stops it going mouldy too.
Elektro Kitten
Woolworths i have found to be way more expensive, although it could be the location

the one at glenelg (my closest) is VERY expensive!
The coles at Plympton is much cheaper...

But when i have time i like to get meat and fruit NOT from the supermarket - cheaper AND fresher... :)
Bexterr
Yeah I find if i shop in elizabeth or some scummy place stuff is cheaper, where as if i shop at medindie i am broke buying one banana... not that i eat bananas but IT WAS AN EXAMPLE Lol!
KittiChikr
Location can count thats for sure. Although I found the best Coles is the one at Burnside Village. It always had bargains going on bakery and also meat too.
KittiChikr
Today I went to Coles and they have big chocolate blocks for $2.. normally $3.63 so pretty good saving!! Like aero, milky bar etc.

Also 1kg tubs of yoghurt for $3.50 normally $4 something

Agreeed, Foodland ROCKS. have found them consistently cheaper, particularly for meat - regularly have rump or porterhouse for $7.98 - means I can afford to eat meat!
