If you haven't heard already:

http://blogs.news.com.au/news/entertainmen.../male_grooming/

Check that story out, or feel free to google till your heart's content..

Basically; male cosmetics (concealers, bronzers, etc) are soon to be released to the mainstream market for every day "blokes".

.. I was just curious what you all thought of this, and are there any guys out there looking to give this stuff a go?

That's not make-up?

I moisturise, use a face cleanser, use nail clippers and nail files, etc etc ..

We're talking about foundation, mascara and all that type of shit - but tailored for men. Do you use that stuff already? (Not saying it's a bad thing, just trying to make sure everyone understands what we're talking about here smile.gif).

I don't see this taking off in mainstream society. The average joe wont be wearing foundation...

There is definetely a market for men in the media like modeling and TV and some members of the gay community, womens products have been used up to now because there wasnt anything to suit men's skin, so they'll be happy!

OOPS!!

I tend to agree with this.

I'm sure there will be a few metros who use a touch of foundation or concealer every once in a while to look their "best" when going out - but I think the majority of these cosmetics will be used in the fashion/TV/modelling/whatever industry, or by the gay community.

There was a hetero guy at our school who was "mighty fine looking" (aka not my type but all the girls seemed to fawn over him) and he had really nice skin which was one of the things that attracted most girls to him but when a friend hooked up with him she said he was wearing foundation and everyone giggled about it for a long time.

If no-one knew you were wearing it and it just made you look better then I don't see the harm, but the same thing can be said about girls...

yeah a guy at my school used to wear foundation too cos he had bad skin.... must have been cheap tho, cos everyone could notice it lol

foundation tho... go for it guys. why should only girls be allowed to wear it to cover up the parts of their skin that embarrass them? i dont see a problem with guys wearing it at all

im a fan of guys in eyeliner :wubL .... but not every guy waking down the street...heh i dont think dav would suit it blink.gif gotta have the right dark eyes for it i rekn. cant see myself being attracted to any guys wearing lipstick and eyeshadow too.

each to their own I guess....

tinted moisturiser, with some degree of spf built in looks good on anyones skin, and is a good idea for anyone living in a climate like Australias....anything beyond that on a guy (who is not a rockstar - or emo ha ha ha) is - in my opinion - well, weird.... huh.gif

I'm the same as a couple of you,
I use cleansers, toners, moisturisers.

But as far as foundation or anything goes... I really don't feel the need personally.
The cleansers, toners and moisturisers keep my skin in pretty good condition, nothing really to cover up.

There is no way in hell!!!

men and make up is poofter! (or arts)

fkn hell, what next?? Nutrimetics @ Auto Salon?

How gay!

I use skin care like cleanser and moisturiser, but im not about to start concealing and foundating my face...

Australian men are going to lose respect from something like this...

Any man considering it is a "bottom enthusiest" in my unlined and unshadowed eyes!!

Shit! dry.gif
missvixenr
laugh.gif i disagree, it think its fine for guys to wear foundation, wouldnt consider it gay at all. hell, if i was male and unhappy with my skin id wear it!
...nothing but foundation tho..

like ~Em~ said... each to their own smile.gif

face wash and after shave cream is enough "make up" for a dude, methinks.
Oldskoolier
emo's will be stoked!

lol!

Yeah but make up is to make people(mainly girls) look good.
Emos just use black and red paint cause they are obviously still upset about not being able to still be in kindy... along with everything else they are still winging about... GROW UP!!! ...
end rant lol!!!

I think make up is one of those things that is very much determined by cultural law. In western culture, i.e. in France and England a few hundred years back, only women beautified themselves as a way of appearing like the best 'object' or doll like creature, as to find a suiter. The man just had to have the goods: the $$$ the castle, the ponies etc... Compare this to say egyptians or even our aboriginal cultures who used make up/paint as a form of religious expression and in other cases beauty and power also.

Its just like in Western culture boys don't wear skirts and pretty dresses etc... its all a cultural construct.

Meanwhile, in gay culture many men have gone against the social construct of only girls may do this, boys and men have to do that. So they bling it up as if to make up for all the straight men who DONT dress themselves so freely! It's all about how much you let cultural expectations govern how you feel about decisions.

On the other hand, its not normal for guys to wear bright jewelry, but heaps of you raver guys wear fluro kandi bracelets! ... Just depends on the guy and how he feels about it. Although i think foundation being pushed forward on 5 o'clock shadow would be weird lol!
